Player development - why are we so poor

Mon Aug 05, 2019 8:09 am

I have been amazed at the prices clubs from the championship are getting for their players in the transfer market
Last year Norwich git £30 m for two players and then walked the league Brentford must be on the way to selling £50 m plus over last couple of year with Bristol City the same . Let’s not forget the Swans as well £35 m for two players

Now I am not saying it is good to sell players but it would be good that our players are on top clubs radars as it means we are doing something right ( I know that flys in the face of we got promoted so we did it better than most)We had a promotion winning team last year and still no real buyers apart from Zahore Proabaly the biggest profit we made on a player ever
Is it that we are poor at scouting , poor academy or just our style of play The top clubs don’t seem to want to loan good youngsters to us or are we just not looking ?

Warnock has only one way of playing

It's effective but he's not renowned for bringing youth players through or developing youth players through team

Not ideal then for clubs to loan us players

Plus we play high ball not passing game

it is a bug bear of mine that we have 0 young players in the squad.

at the moment thats the way things will be though, until a new manager comes in at least.

Totally agree or hand is forced

Rashford at United would never have been given a chance unless they had severe injuries that time

Rest is history

I feel sorry for Andy Legg. He must be in the most pointless job ever.

I think its a combination of all you've mentioned. A lot of these clubs give young players time to develop and make mistakes in the first team and continue to pick them whilst they learn, Warnock wont allow time for that. The positive is that we seem to have got our academy addressed and performing well over the last 2 years (under 18's now 23's this season) so id say when Warnock does eventually retire, you've got some good gems in our academy who if given the chance might eventually brake through like George Ratcliffe, Cameron Coxe, Ntazana Mayembe, James Waite, Sion Spence, Dan Griffiths, Isaac Davies and more. Id like to know what happened to Mark Harris though as he seemed to be billed as the next best thing in our academy yet he hasn't moved upwards really.
