About Luton Town

Luton Town Football Club is a professional association football club based in the town of Luton, Bedfordshire, England, that competes in the Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Founded in 1885, it is nicknamed "the Hatters" and affiliated to the Bedfordshire County Football Association. The team plays its home matches at Kenilworth Road, where it has been based since 1905. The club's history includes major trophy wins, several financial crises, numerous promotions and relegations, and some spells of sustained success. It was perhaps most prominent between 1982 and 1992, when it was a member of English football's top division, at that time the First Division; the team won its only major honour, the Football League Cup, in 1988.

The club was the first in southern England to turn professional, making payments to players as early as 1890 and turning fully professional a year later. It joined the Football League before the 1897–98 season, left in 1900 because of financial problems, and rejoined in 1920. Luton reached the First Division in 1955–56 and contested a major final for the first time when playing Nottingham Forest in the 1959 FA Cup Final. The team was then relegated from the top division in 1959–60, and demoted twice more in the following five years, playing in the Fourth Division from the 1965–66 season. However, it was promoted back to the top level by 1974–75.

Luton Town's most recent successful period began in 1981–82, when the club won the Second Division, and thereby gained promotion to the First. Luton defeated Arsenal 3–2 in the 1988 Football League Cup Final and remained in the First Division until relegation at the end of the 1991–92 season. Between 2007 and 2009, financial difficulties caused the club to fall from the second tier of English football to the fifth in successive seasons. The last of these relegations came during the 2008–09 season, when 30 points were docked from Luton's record for various financial irregularities. Luton thereafter spent five seasons in non-League football before winning the Conference Premier in 2013–14, securing promotion back into the Football League.

Previous Meeting

We last played Luton in January 2007. The match at Kenilworth Road finished goalless. David Bell was sent off for Luton in the second half.

Neil Etheridge latest

05/08/19

Reports are suggesting that Neil Etheridge could be out for two months. with his hamstring injury.

However, the club will not commit to a specific timescale due to the nature of the injury - so while reports of two months could turn out to be accurate, it’s not the official line.

Neil Warnock said after the Wigan defeat that the goalkeeper could be out for a “few weeks”.

r

Luton Middlesborough was a very good game I thought Luton looked very good going forward and well dodgy at the back.Same could be said for Boro. One the basis of the first game for both teams there should be a few goals maybe a 2-2 or 3-2.

Luton Town travel to CCS for the first time in their history on Saturday, having last visited the Bluebirds in September 2006 at Ninian Park.

The Hatters were promoted to the Championship from League One at the end of the 2018/19 season, topping the league table with 94 points. During the season, Luton went on a 28-match unbeaten streak, and led at the top of the division from January until the season’s end.

The Hatters' biggest transfer over the summer period has arguably been that of Simon Sluga, who was purchased from Croatian club HN Rijeka. The 26-year-old Croatian goalkeeper made 64 appearances for the club between 2013-19, alongside loan spells at Pomorac, Lokomotiva, and Spezia. He has also made one international appearance for last year’s World Cup Finalists, playing this year in a friendly against Tunisia. Sluga made a number of fine saves during their Championship opener against 'Boro, but will have been disappointed to concede Britt Assombalonga's equaliser late in the first half.

Another notable signing for the club was Callum McManaman. The 28-year-old winger was signed following the expiry of his contract at Wigan Athletic, where he made over 100 league appearances over two stints with the Latics, where he had previously worked with manager Graeme Jones. Additionally, while at West Bromwich Albion, the Englishman made 20 Premier League appearances across two seasons for the Baggies.

I think they will beat us 2-1 to round off a crap week. We will all be on melt down, and then things will improve, and we will be back to winning ways.

Luton Town have beaten the transfer deadline to complete the triple loan signing of James Bree, Izzy Brown and Luke Bolton.

Defender Bree joins from Aston Villa while forward Brown and winger Bolton have both made temporary moves to Kenilworth Road from Chelsea and Manchester City respectively.

All three players have agreed season-long loan deals with the Hatters.

Bree spent the second-half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town, while Brown and Bolton were on loan at Leeds United and Wycombe Wanderers respectively.

I bet Warnock plays Patterson upfront with the German, he loves him and will do anything to get him in the starting 11

Why call Glatzel “the German.” Do you call Hoilett “the Canadian” or Bamba “the Ivorian”?

I am a little nervous about today. Luton town, albeit in a lower division, scored a shed load of goals last year and really blew teams away. I still don't have faith in our defence, and it may take a few games for our new players to gel. I'm predicting a score draw. 2-2.

That Izzy Brown is a class player. Played well for Huddersfield in their promotion season.

Will Pack start? I wouldn’t normally expect it but the fact that he has played so many times with Flint behind him must be a positive.

Day or Smithies in goal?

My guess:-

Day

Peltier
Flint
Morrison
Bennet

Pack
Ralls
Bacuna

Mendez
Glatzel
Whyte

Mendez Lang is injured but I think that won't be far away from the starting 11 except I reckon he will start Patterson as he loves him and Murphy will play instead of Mendez, hopefully the squad will be more than enough for Luton, 3-1 glatzel 2 whyte 1
Also be interesting to see if pack starts in front of vaulks, Warnock talked up Pack and Whyte yesterday so I think they will both be in
