NEIL WARNOCK: “ONE OR TWO QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED”

Sat Aug 03, 2019 10:08 pm

Neil Warnock, who is chasing a record ninth promotion this season, believes the defeat helped clear a few things up.

NEIL WARNOCK:

"We have to make sure we put things right next week now," said Warnock.

"One or two questions were answered today in my own mind, I'm aware of the situations but disappointed because I thought it was a game we could have got three points from.

"On another day we had the opportunities but all credit to them, they took the goals well and it was a good lesson for us."

Wigan Athletic 3-2 Cardiff City: Windass inspires Wigan comeback
Promotion the only target for Neil Warnock and Cardiff
Back in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League last season, Warnock's Bluebirds are one of the favourites for promotion back to the top flight.

But the veteran manager knows as well as anyone the difficulties the second tier can throw at a team.

"Welcome to the Championship, it was nothing more than I was expecting," said Warnock.

"It's a tough league and you have to take your chances which we weren't able to do.

"They scored two cracking goals but it was poor defending really when you look at it."

More deals to be done?

Summer signings Robert Glatzel missed the opening game of the season through suspension
Warnock revealed Cardiff City's involvement in the transfer market, which closes on Thursday, may not be finished quite yet.

The Bluebirds have already brought in six new players, three of which made their league debuts against Wigan on Saturday.

But Warnock says there could still be some player movement, both leaving and joining the club.

"I've had enquiries for players, some players may move, and we have enquired about player availability," said Warnock.

"There may be the possibility of a late loan from the Premier League if they don't get the move they want.

"On Thursday everyone will be scrambling, I hope I'm sitting at home with everything done."

One or two questions.

Maybe that Madine doesn’t have the quality to play up front for us?

Or that Smithies has to play in front of Day?

Or just that we need reinforcements and have a few days to do it.

Were you drunk when watching the match, Madine had quite a good game and day had no chance with either goals one was a cracker and the other was morrisons fault, Etheridge would not have saved either of them!

I thought madine played well aswell to be fair to him it was probably his best game got us

Joe day didnt have a chance with 2 of the goals because of his positioning . A good championship keeper would have got his angles correct and saved the second and third , possibly he could have been braver with the first and closed down quicker aswell.

I would say the questions answered were Joe day is not ready

And Ralls with Bacuna doesn't work in centre midfield

No I was sober thanks - tell me what Madine did that Bogle didn’t top when he came on? He tries and I’m all for effort but his quality on the ball isn’t going to get us up.

Tell me where I said he was at fault for the goals? I agree he couldn’t do anything about them - his kicking was terrible and he looked nervous - when we have an established championship goalkeeper in replacement why do we need to play him?

Madine has very good link up play.

Etheridge kicking is terrible every game. But that goes unnoticed.

Question 1 Do our center backs have any pace?

Answer No.

Question 2 Is Murphy any good?

Answer No.

Question 3 Are we missing Manga?

Answer Yes.

Question 4 Can we play with a midfielder 4?

Answer No, it has to be 5 with a holding player in front of the back 4.

Can’t understand how we were so bad. We’d bought players from the lower leagues which should mean automatic promotion surely?

I'll say it now the squad isn't good enough for a top 6 place.

Re Joe Day... let him play, make the mistakes at the speed of this level.. see how he develops.

Neil says he has had enquiries for some players. I wonder which ones?If it was for either Murphy or Morrison and a decent fee was offered I would sell them on and use the money to strengthen the team elsewhere.

Let's not crash and burn after 1 defeat as disappointing as it was.
Probably three things will happen after this defeat, NW will revert to the tried and tested, Hoilet for Murphy , Patterson for Reid and Glatzek for Madine,

We definitely are in need of a defensive midfield player though.

I wonder what Kenneth Zohore and Kadeem Harris are thinking today?

Probably thinking that they were glad that they were not at Neil Warnocks post match inquisition!
