MY VIEW/OPINION:


CARDIFF CITY'S OPENING GAME OF THE SEASON STARTED WITH A LOSS WHICH FOR ME WAS DUE TO THE LOSS OF ETHERIDGE & A SLOW CITY DEFENCE.



It all seemed to go wrong when Neil Etheridge went off injured(not looking good) at 0-1 to City, then bang everything seemed to go right for Wigan, with Cardiff's defence looking so slow Wigan scored and just grew in confidence and their pace then seemed way to fast for our defence with Windass running circles around Morrison.

For me it deserved to be 3-3 as it was end to stuff from both clubs and Cardiff never stopped attacking right up to the final whistle.


A good first-half by Cardiff, even though end to end, Neil Etheridge had nothing to do, with Aden Flint having a great debut and Ralls scoring to make 0-1 at h/t


Former City players David Marshall and Anthony Pilkington started for Wigan, while former Cardiff City target Jamal Lowe was named on the bench.



Fantastic away support by Cardiff 3,600 fans

After 20 mins both sides had chances, clearing of the lines, over all even stevens, then David Marshall dropped it with Madine pressure, then Joe Ralls immediately striking a half-volley in the box to make 0-1 City


Even with some pressure from Wigan, Neil Etheridge very little to do.

Cardiff played wide and Wigan played through the middle.


Just before half-time Joe Ralls nearly made it 2nil.

48th min Sean Morrison brings Windass down, Wigan given a penalty, but thankfully Windass hits the post

54th min, Neil Etheridge goes of injured


Then 59th min with Joe Day in goal, Michael Jacobs scores for Wigan with a deflection 1-1



63rd min Windass twisted and turned Morrison on his way into the area and drilled home 2-1



Neil Warnock responded,Omar Bogle on for Madine.


70th min Bogle good goal, Marshall no chance 2-2


75th min Lee Evans goal of the game and 3-2




Cardiff then never stopped attacking right up to the final whistle.

Pre season was poor too. Not enough games. The middle of the park looks weak too. Why no Vauks? No time to panic yet but we look a long way of the pace of being a top half team yet.

For me today the gaffer got it wrong today.Being 1-0 up he should have addressed the staggering imbalance in midfield which Wigan went on to exploit in the second half.I would have hooked Murphy at half time and played Valks in the second half matching their 4-3-3 formation.We had the better players but were beat by a side with more ambition and a better plan.

Poor start against one of the weaker sides from last season in the division. Conceding three is poor and I thought we would have one of the hardest defences to score against Hopefully an early wake up call for the team and they will respond well next week

Annis you should of listened on a radio pace killed our defence,plus a wonder strike from a tw@t born in Newport but this is the championship, shock to the system,but we go again quickly,for me bogle should have started the game ahead of madine,whether some fans will agree I'm not too sure,but like it or not,he is the only striker on form right now at least Glatzel will have a little time to gel with the team but one plus is our fans (again) sounded as if we were at home

Very worrying if our defence is slow. Morrison always struggles against pace.
Not one of our defence is quick. Definitely something to worry about.

If we stay above Fulham all season we will be promoted.

Warnock needs to shake it up. Needs a midfield general. That someone to sit just in front of defence and set up when on the ball.

Warnock needs to take a look at himself.

I’m not trying to stir the pot, but what of Warnock’s neat 3 years here have shown you that he would ever have done any differently to what he did today? We haven’t had a Plan B his entire tenure, if we’re honest.

Is Warnock versatility being shone through and all managers are working his tactics out very quickly.

Very out dated tactics and no quality as a team.

Flint played fairly decent but againt Wigan you would expect it bogle done fairly well also.

I’m not trying to stir the pot, but what of Warnock’s neat 3 years here have shown you that he would ever have done any differently to what he did today? We haven’t had a Plan B his entire tenure, if we’re honest.

Same problem as last season and one before errors by players in vital places cost us 2 goals plus the pen? Having said that how we did not win or draw game with the efforts we had dont know! Midfield is a concern though and needs addressing

That’s why buying Flint was a mystery to me.. he’s slower than Morrison

Wigan brought in some good players in past week which made lot of fiffernce but still we shouldn't have lost

Murphy needs to stay on his feet, on the way back home worried about our loss of manga's pace was very evident

Flint was excellent today

Problem is we went 1 up then sat back

Still time to address things

Center mid is priority

Etheridge looks out for a few weeks

Days decision making slow but he's learning

Wigan got their tactics spot on in the second half. They played on the floor, exploited our lack of pace at centre back and fullback and basically in midfield too. Although we missed a few chances, we scored 2 away at Wigan. That should have been enough. If Morrison, Flint and Glatzell or Madine or Bogle are to be effective at set pieces, they must attack specific areas, not go for the same ball. Bogle looked decent when he came on and took his goal with ease, but faded. Early days, but not impressed at the moment.

My worry is that we conceded 3 goals through pace

Annis wasn't pace more like long balls over the top and defenders laying off players that cost us ? Midfield cought out to often

f**k. Cardiff fans can drink!!!

Positives of today Flint & Bogle

What we know :-

Day is not as good as Etheridge or maybe even Smithies, League 1 level on that shocking performance , needs to improve 100% - come on Joe step up.

Madine is gone , Bogle is proving the Gaffer wrong every time he plays.

Midfield - I'll reserve judgement until Ive seen Walks play a few games

Defence - they need to work together and get an understanding of who does what.

Am I worried - not in the slightest
