Zinedine Zidane causes fresh stir with blunt Gareth Bale comments as golf pictures emerge

Thursday 1st August 2019

Zinedine Zidane says Gareth Bale "has to look after his responsibilities" after pictures emerged of him apparently playing golf while his team-mates were facing Tottenham in the Audi Cup.

The Welshman missed the pre-season trip following his failed move to China, with a transfer to Jiangsu Suning hitting the buffers when Real Madrid pulled the plug at the last minute.

Bale was said to be not in the right frame of mind to travel to Germany, but Frenchman Zidane told the media that Bale wasn't fit.

Spanish outlet El Confidencial published pictures of Bale playing golf in Madrid at the same time his team-mates were playing his former team Spurs.

Asked about the pictures after Real’s 5-3 third-place win over Turkish side Fenerbahce in the Audi Cup on Wednesday, Zidane said: “I don’t know.

“You are telling me something that has surely happened. I’m here with my players, and I’m not going to comment on that.

“I hope he trained there. We are here, thinking about the team.”

Zidane and Bale's relationship has deteriorated rapidly over the past few weeks, and it wasn't exactly blossoming before the latest falling out.

“Well, we’ll see when we get back,” the Real boss said when asked if Bale’s attitude had bothered him.

“I will not prevent someone from doing something. He has to look after his responsibilities.

“We will see what he has done in Madrid. I will not get into his personal life. But I think he has done training.

“I will not tell you if it (Bale’s professionalism) is disrespectful.

“You are not going to put me in a position that I don’t want to be in. I will not answer anything more than that.”

Not sure what Madrid are trying to achieve here. Either sell him at a reduced value - making a loss on the initial transfer but saving millions in wages - or loan him out losing all transfer money but save on wages. Or they could just play him!!! The way its going they are going to make a double loss with no transfer money and paying all his wages.

Such a waste of talent if the final years of his career are spent playing golf.

A bit pathetic refusing to go to play in the cup and stay in Madrid in my opinion.
He’s a professional, should make himself available instead of sulking.

Have to agree there, Paul. Time for Gareth Bale to be as professional as his game and wages suggest he is

Gets stranger by the day firstly zidane stated club drs said couldnt play then its his head is not right, so bale didn't refuse or declined to play in cup and there was Nothing about being told to train only seems to change view when it becomes public bale playing golf ? Heared the interview referred to in this thread and unfortunately the quote is only part of what zidane said .. it looks like they are trying to make bale in wrong to cover for zidane

He won't go out on loan Lewis and Madrid wont sell him as nobody will match his wages. Either he stays or gets a permanent move of his liking. It's his choice not Zidane's.

Zidane, Bale and his agent are all as bad as each other. Don't think Zidane has treated him right but Bale and his agent haven't helped matters at all. Always preferred Ramsey tbh

Each to their own, but what has Ramsey achieved to date? The problem is zidane, can't get over bale being chosen over him last time, and has clearly carried the grudge back with him, great player, but seems a bit of a prick as a man  bale has achieved more in his time as a player at real than zidane, they gave him the long, and impossible to match contract, not gareths fault ;) they could have freed up his wages,by allowing him to go to China, and for whatever reason have chose not to,and president has ordered he must play :?: ball back in bales court in my eyes. :old: :bluebird:

Don’t think Zinedane is all at blame here. All Bale seems interested in at the moment is golf. Now if someone is paying over a quarter of a million each week you expect that person to give 100% 24/7 .
When he now plays for Wales his mind doesn’t seem to be on the game TBH. If his heart is t in it any more then retire and give up your wages.
If it’s a case he doesn't want to play for RM then take the hit on the wages and move. Sorry I have zero sympathy for him.

Zidane is also to blame, he's been a complete cock throughout this and has some childish vendetta against bale for some reason, everyone sucks in this situation, nobody's hands are clean

I haven't any sympathy either nukes, but why should he take the hit in wages ? If RM want rid (and not just zidane ) then pay his contract up,they offered him that ridiculous contract ^so as they could keep him there ;) even try and sell him for less than what they are asking at present, then maybe his wage wouldn't be such a problem  for me there is too much player power, managers and owners are at ransom to them ,but i dont think thats the case here,Its almost as if he's not allowed to play golf,so when he does,he gives them(fans&manager) a stone to throw at him,he has never once,as far as I am aware, said he doesn't want to play for them,or has he? Not a good situation all round, something has to give,be it his wage demands, or real's asking price, otherwise it's a stalemate. :old: :bluebird:

I think Zidane will know more what happens behind the scenes than we do. As Nuclearblue said; he hasn't been on the ball for club nor country for a while now. Comments from his team mates say his head is more focussed on playing golf and he hasn't integrated to the culture.

People are fast enough to moan when migrants move to the UK and fail to integrate, why is Bale any different?

Either way nobody is coming out of this looking good.
Also i wouldnt compare a migrant to a football player, one moves to a country for a new life the other moves for a couple of years to play football, theres no comparison.

I agree mate, it’s a silly comparison.
Bale is obviously only interested in the money and the golf.

I would say if you moved to another country, you should adjust to their culture. Including learning the language. I wouldn't be impressed if we signed someone for record fee's and they weren't bothering to learn the language.

He does know the language though, even Alvaro said he can but he's really self conscious about it

I stand corrected. It was one of the big criticisms. Maybe his personality doesn't suit moving to a foreign country, if he is too shy to speak the language.

A move back to the UK sounds like it would be best for all parties.

“Best for all parties”?

Not best for Bale because he won’t move back to the Premier league as he won’t take a cut in his salary. Driven by money.
Hardly the best for both parties then.

He signed a very lucrative contract with them, let them buy him out of it :thumbright: if he was the one pushing to leave, maybe he would take the hit,but it should also be a move HE thinks is right for him.not ideal for us,as wales fans, but the fact of being shy with using a language is not unique in any way,I have a nephew and niece who are fluent welsh speakers, she isn't embarrassed using it,he is the polar opposite,it's not in some people's dna to be taught a new language, and less face it,most footballers are not the brightest of people, outside football a lot struggle,as they possess no other skill set.I think he should try and find another club, not necessarily in the prem though.after he agrees on a settlement on his current 3 years. :old: :bluebird:

He’s turned in some blinding performances for them in huge games, won them the champions league scoring crucial goals in a few of them. I’m glad he’s holding them out, dont be bullied by zidane. No one is going to pay him 500k a week and pay a huge fee are they? Shame Man City don’t get him as wales would see the best of him too.....
