Here's the full lowdown on the man set to join the Bluebirds

Cardiff City are on the brink of confirming a move for Heidenheim striker Robert Glatzel.

The forward was in the Welsh capital on Tuesday to undergo a medical ahead of a £5.5m move, and the club have high hopes that he could be a star.

However, he's unlikely to be a name familiar to many Cardiff fans.

Here's a quick rundown on the man set to be the Bluebirds' next new signing.

Who is he?

After starting out at hometown side SC Fürstenfeldbrück and SpVgg Unterhaching, Glatzel joined the ranks of the youth academy at 1860 Munich in 2012, netting five goals in 20 games for the club's under-19s side.

A year later, he joined fourth tier side SV Heimstetten, where he would score one goal in four appearances during a swift two-month spell.

Professional 3.Liga outfit Wacker Burghausen came calling and Glatzel signed a one-year deal at the club, appearing for both the first and second teams.

He returned to 1860 Munich after failing to hold down a regular first team place but, now 21, was on the move again in the summer of 2015, joining FC Kaiserslautern in the second tier.

On October 2, 2016, Glatzel made his first team debut for the club in a goalless draw with Arminia Bielefeld, coming on as a 75th-minute substitute.

The following February, he would be on the scoresheet for the first time, netting the only goal of the game in a win over Wurzburger.

Glatzel would go on to make four league starts for the club, bagging four goals, but when the summer came round he was on the move again, joining fellow 2.Bundesliga outfit FC Heidenheim on a three-year deal.

His first goal for the club came in the first round of the German Cup against former team SpVgg Unterhaching, and he would eventually go on to score six more in 32 games, during what was arguably a breakthrough season.

Encouragingly, he built on that promise, banging in 17 goals in 29 games last term, including a sensational hat-trick against Bayern Munich in the German Cup back in April, a performance that undoubtedly got scouts around the world sitting up and paying attention.

What sort of player is he?

At 6ft 4ins, he has all the makings of being the predatory target man that Neil Warnock craves.

A potentially powerful presence in the final third, Glatzel seems the sort of player that could potentially thrive in a Warnock side, and his goalscoring record suggests he has an element of ruthlessness that wasn't quite seen in Zohore.

But according to his coach at Heidenheim, Frnak Schmidt, he is far more than a simple big lump up front.

He said recently: "We can rely on him, he plays well against the ball. He has also trained us with a good body language.

"Despite his height, he can play at any time in a confined space and an opponent."

In the rough and tumble world of the Championship, where space is largely at a premium, those words are hugely encouraging.

Will he be a success?

Cardiff certainly think so.

The 25-year old is believed to have been Warnock's first choice striker target this summer, and he believes the German has all the qualities needed to succeed in the Championship.

He's not the only one.

Reports have suggested the likes of Middlesbrough and Brentford were casting admiring glances, while there was also believed to be interest from the Bundesliga.

His recent hat-trick in the 5-1 friendly win over Boro recently certainly left an impression on boss Jonathan Woodgate.

"They've got a good centre-forward in Glatzel, who's going to cost a few quid in the transfer window whoever signs him," he said.

If Glatzel scores the goals needed to get Cardiff back into the Premier League, £5.5m will seem like a steal.

Like most, I've had a look at him from highlights I've watched and he is looking like a NW type of player.
Big, strong, and can finish too. Mobile as well.
I personally like the look of him.
The championship is a long, hard and physical league, which I think Glatzel will thrive in imo. :ayatollah:

It’s quite sad really as he seems very much in the Sala mould of centre forward

My thoughts as well. Seems a very exciting transfer, an unknown striker is always more exciting for me. And for the price we are paying for him it is a no brainer. I don’t think we’ll ever have a 20 goal a year striker, but it’s what they do for the team also. Glatzel should bring our wingers and Reid in to play with his physical prowess, and by all accounts he’s good with his feet too.

I read an article just now that said his weakness is his hold up play which is a big concern with how we play but I'd rather judge him on what I see rather than what others say.

Glatzel directly contributed to 23 goals in 29 games last year - 17 goals and 6 assists.
