Cardiff City Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Northern Irish winger, Gavin Whyte, subject to international clearance.

The 23-year-old joins the Bluebirds from Oxford United for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-year contract which will run until the summer of 2023.

A Northern Ireland international, Gavin scored for his country with his very first touch as he made his debut against Israel in September 2018.

He made a total of 36 league appearances during his time with the U’s, scoring seven goals.

After signing his City contract, Gavin spoke exclusively to Cardiff City TV.

"I'm delighted," he said. "When I first heard about the move, I couldn't wait to come here.

"I give 100% - I'm a hard worker, I'm positive, I like to go forward and take players on...

"Now I can't wait to get the kit on, play as many games as I can and help this great Club to be where they need to be."

Neil Warnock also spoke to cardiffcityfc.co.uk, adding: "I watched a lot of Gavin while we were scouting Curtis Nelson.

"He just excited me so much. He's full of enthusiasm and is just the type of player that we were looking for.

"I think he'll be a fans' favourite for years to come."

Sounds like a City type of player. We always appreciate a try hard. And if he can add a few goals he'll definitely be a favourite.

Think this season is mainly from the bench for him. But at 23 he's got age on his side. Looking forward to seeing him play! Welcome to the madhouse.

Oxford fan in piece, just to say you’ve got yourselves one hell of a player in Gavin, he is a class act, his sheer pace causes teams problems, we are absolutely gutted he was only with us one season, he’s gonna tear up the championship, that I am sure, think he is worth 5/6 million, you’ve certainly got him on the cheap, good luck this season.

Neil Warnock has finally got himself a striker

Cardiff City have completed a move for Heidenheim striker Robert Glatzel.

The 25-year-old has signed a three-year-deal at the club and joins for an undisclosed fee, understood to be in the region of £5.5m

The striker was in south Wales yesterday for a medical.

“I’m very happy to be here,” he said after signing with the club.

“I can’t wait to get to work, get to know the fans and start the season.

“I’m a tall player and heading is a good attribute for me, but I can also play with the ball. I think I have good technique for my height, so will hopefully show the fans that and fit in well here.

“As a striker you always want to score goals to help the team. Of course, I want to score as many goals as possible.”


Glatzel becomes Neil Warnock's seventh signing of the summer, following on from Joe Day, Will Vaulks, Curtis Nelson, Aden Flint, Aaron Bolger and Gavin Whyte .

However, a striker has been the most pressing issue for the Yorkshireman after letting Kenneth Zohore go to West Brom earlier in the summer.


And the 70-year-old will be hoping that 6ft 4ins Glatzel will be the man to help fire the Bluebirds to his ninth promotion.

The Munich native scored 17 goals in 29 games last season in Germany, including a hat-trick against heavyweights Bayern Munich in April.

It is understood he will be in contention to make his debut in the Bluebirds' opening Championship fixture away to Wigan Athletic this Saturday.
