' Neil Warnock speaks on striker search '

Monday 29th July 2019

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock admits the club’s striker search isn’t going totally as planned.

NEIL WARNOCK:

“I’m not just going to sign anybody for the sake of it. We have got two major targets but at the moment I’m afraid neither of them we can say we’ve got a good chance of getting them.

“If you could give me two or three players this week I’d be absolutely delighted because I don’t think we’ve got enough to think about automatic promotion.”

Warnock is set to cast the net beyond the UK this summer, and insists the club’s hierarchy are working flat out to bring the right man on board, although there are potential back-up options available.

“There’s not a lot around [in the UK],” he added. “So we’ve got to do what we can. We got £8m with Ken and I know people will say you shouldn’t sell him until you’ve got someone, but I just felt he needed the change and we did.

“It’s not as easy as you think but we are working really hard. This morning I had meetings galore and calls, you name it.

“Mehmet Dalman and Ken Choo are really trying hard. I’d rather wait and get our main targets. I think we’ve got reserves up our sleeves for probably a second striker, but I’d rather try and get a main one if I can.

“We’re looking overseas because I don’t think there’s much around here. There might be the odd one late on in a loan deal over here, but anyone of any substance has gone in terms of what I’m looking for.”

If there's not much chance getting them , move on.

In my opinion you don't sell our main striker to a promotion rival if you haven't got a replacement set in stone.

Re: ' Neil Warnock speaks on striker search '

Mon Jul 29, 2019 10:15 am

Was Zohore our main striker? Warnock hasn't been in the game this long to sell his main striker without an replacing player incoming.

In other words we've left it too late and we will just sign a young striker on loan or league 1 player on the last day of the window

I thought he is or was supposed to be our main target man.
I think Warnock is great but is human and can make mistakes.

I wouldn’t say Zohore was our main striker but whatever floats your boat. Personally I believe Bogle and Ward are better than Zohore but that’s my opinion.

I'm trying but this window is going the same way as the last 2. Everyone knows what is needed but never happens. It's got Last day panic buy all over it again.

They can say they are working hard and it's difficult all they like, the fact is other teams seem to get players they need. Only so long the same excuses can be used.
Hopefully it changes in the next few days but the signs are it wont at the moment

Had he turned down 8 million for Zohore I would of personally driven Warnock to the funny farm

Groundhog Day.

A shame really as it would give
Everyone a huge boost
For the first wave of games.

House in order a team to believe
In etc.
Instead, it creates bickering between fans
Who have yearned for a striker for a few years now to be fair....

There are surely better than Ward, Madine and Bogle that we could punt for.

A Premier league opportunity awaits
(Warnock, f**k your bonus and spend some money pal  )

Zahore wasn't our main striker, Ward/Bogle/Patterson better options. I wish him all the best though.

It's all well and good saying what we need but actually getting what we need is a completely different ball game.
There's more to getting a player than just saying "i want you" and at the end of the day if the player doesn't want to move then they wont move thats not the clubs or Warnocks fault

Of course but at the end of the day its Warnocks job to get players in, if he doesn't get better than Zohore then he would have failed in my opinion. Its all very well playing it down but we have now had the same issues for a number of years, right back, midfield and upfront and despite a good amount of money spent in the last 2 years

well considering the remaining options were A. behind Zohore in the pecking order last season or B. on loan to championship clubs then of course he was our main striker .

I really hope we're not looking at another Grujic situation here where effectively the club are putting all their eggs in the one basket with the possibility that if their main target falls through it's too late to do anything about it.

Its mad to think people actually don't think we need a striker.

Im all for defending the club and if we cant afford a striker I have no issued with that, the club should come out and say it but for people to suggest we don't need one or that we are stronger upfront than we were promotion season is mad.

No one is saying we dont need a striker, when a former right back starts ahead of you that doesnt make you our main striker, being a main striker means you're in the starting 11 consistently.
He was our main striker at some point but hasn't been for a long time so no one is is trying to re-write shit

cheers for that :laughing6: :laughing6:

also in 2019 he sent two of the remaining 3 strikers out on loan, one to the championship, and one to league 1, neither of which established themselves as first team regulars.

to pretend any of them are better than zohore in the system we play is nonsensical.

I think people are assuming our main striker should be scoring the goals ;) and that he wasn't for 2 consecutive seasons,we needed a change, and maybe so did he :?: for me this is the case, don't wish him any malice or anything,it wasn't working so time to part ways, and if I am brutally honest,I was surprised he went for as much as he did,I thought we missed the boat when Brighton made a big bid for him,not sure if that turned his head a little, and he believed he was better than he is :?: thus not trying as hard, cos if he was trying, then we have done a great bit of business indeed ;) personally I thought he shouldn't have made the "I'm back" gesture" to us fans, because it was a flash in the pan,he failed to score another goal :!: In fairness I also mentioned when sala was being touted at £15m,a similar purple patch if mind serves me right. (Rip). :old: :bluebird:

Connor Wickham one of 2 targets .. absolutely horrific news if you ask me, his goalscoring record is shambolic and he is injury prone, if this is the type of striker we are looking at, we have ZERO ambition

He did about a hundred miles on the pitch but sadly no goals. But do agree he did put himself about but looked like he was playing some sirt of imagenary game with himself.

Connor wickham as a replacement for zohore,
Not liturally no goals and in the treatment room.

Yeah we looked a far better team with him playing, decent link up play, could beat a defender. Goals was a problem for all our strikers at that level but with a bit of confidence id stick him in before Medine, Ward and Bogle anyday.

Id rather we didn't buy him mind, I think we need better.
