Negative nellys

Sun Jul 28, 2019 6:47 pm

Instead of comparing the squad to last year why not compare it to the last time we were promoted from the Championship.

In my mind apart from the loss of Gunnar and Grujic we are actually a lot stronger and one was fit for half a season and one was here for half a season. Bobby Reid and Murphy are top class at this level. Flint is too and will do more than Manga did as much as I loved Manga. Ralls will be a lot better for his season in the Premier. I think if we keep Ward fit all season we will see an awesome striker. NML will also have improved from his time in the Premier.

We have also weakened one of our rivals by getting 8 million off them for Zohore.

As always in Warnock I trust.

Nice one Mac. Agree with all that. Gunnar 2 years ago was excellent but way past best now though.
I keep saying I’m not going to get drawn in by the negative posts and put positive stuff up but I’m I end up constantly having to reply.

Weaker at right back and upfront as obviously Reid can't play upfront in our system.

Stronger wide with Murphy and at number 10 with Reid instead of Patterson.

In my opinion this squad overal is weaker than the one who got promoted because its so unbalanced. Still plenty of time but key positions have to be filled.

Ward, Medine, Bogle all have something in comman, signed from bottom end championship teams and done nothing anything to suggest they are up to it and able to lead the line.

How weaker at right back?

Madine played for a top championship side last year.

Grujic not in midfield is only place we are weaker but he wasn’t rated by many.

Warnock is after 2 to 3 players.

Good uns - not squad beefers
Looks like whyte is in

Hopefully a striker or mid to come in.
I expect these 2 players are in the radar of
A few clubs
Hence warnock letting us know he's trying
But won't (or can't) pay silly money :bluescarf:

The player who played right back pretty much all promotion season has left. I would say that makes us weaker.

I don't see how you can say we aren't weaker upfront having lost Zohore who lead the line most of the promotion season.

I don't think we are much weaker in midfield to be honest, Vaulks I prefer to Gunner and Bacuna is a solid championship player (I hope) but we need another.

I have never really been a fan of Peltier but even I have to admit he had some great performances towards the end of the PL season. Manga did a great job at right-back but he was never a natural and I can remember Josh Murphy running rings around him last time we played Norwich at CCS in the Championship. Peltier is a natural defensive RB although admittedly he is not a great attacking option.

We looked much more solid with Peltier at RB rather than Manga. Granted that may have been because of Manga playing CB but we won’t know. We won’t need much from Peltier going forward with NML and Murphy wingers.

Zohore May have been striker but he didn’t do a lot. I’m not one who thinks he is shite at all but he and Paterson up top is no better than Madine/Ward/Bogle and Reid in my opinion. Reid is going to rip it apart next year.

Far stronger overall.

For me Peltier is a better right back but if we are comparing squads then that's what we have to do, obviously Warnock thought Manga was a better option at right back so that has to make us weaker.

Reid won't copy upfront in our system, he would get totally bullied if we chucked the crap up to him like we did to Zohore or Medine. As a number 10 I think he can have a cracking season though and think he will get goals.

Patterson must never play upfront for us again, that was awful.

Paterson at 10 works but Reid a much better option at 10.

I would like Paterson centre mid. Think he has all the attributes to do well there.

Slightly harsh on ward i feel, who was just starting to get going here before a bad injury. he certainly deserves an opportunity for me.

Ward never seems far from an injury. Personally for all his effort I think he is lacking. Gets about bit his link up play or ability to keep hold of the ball is pretty poor.

I don’t think Paterson works upfront or as a number 10.

He’s not quick enough to stretch the back four as a striker and his distribution is nowhere near good enough for a number 10.

That said, I think in the Championship we should try and get him in the XI because he offers so much in terms of work rate and an ability to get on the end of things.

Maybe central midfield is the answer. Just a shame his defending is not rated because he was brought in as a full back and he would certainly offer something going forward.
