What police have said about rumours the Swansea City v Cardiff City derby won't be a 'bubble match'
Sunday 28th July 2019
It comes amidst growing speculation about the two Championship fixtures in 2019/2020
South Wales Police have said they are "in discussions" with Swansea City and Cardiff City over the policing arrangements required for the upcoming South Wales Derby matches.
The South Wales derby is widely regarded as one of the fiercest rivalries in all of British football.
The two sides will meet in the Championship at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday, October 26, and at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, January 11.
Speculation has been building amongst fans in recent weeks that the games this year may not be "bubble matches".
Classification as a 'bubble match' means away fans must travel on designated transport, usually club coaches, from
Travelling fans are bused directly to and from the ground, rather being allowed to make their own travel arrangements.
Bubble matches and restrictions on fans are used in extreme cases where clubs and police fear disorder.
Fans have discussed the rumour on social media...
Asked about whether the game would be a bubble match, South Wales Police said precise details of the policing arrangements would be announced in due course.
A South Wales Police spokesman said: "As is the case at the start of every football season, we are in discussion with both Cardiff City and Swansea City regarding the policing requirements for their fixtures.
"The policing of the South Wales derby in previous years has been extremely successful and we will be working with both clubs to build on our experiences this season."
Police can use alternative methods to the 'bubble match' system to safeguard away fans visiting a rival's ground, including a police escort.
The away fans can also be held in the ground after the final whistle until the home fans have dispersed from the area. Early kick-off times are also employed.
It has been a significant length of time since the two clubs last met, with the most recent being on February 8, 2014, at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League. The match ended in a 3-0 win for Swansea with goals coming from Wayne Routledge, Nathan Dyer and Wilfried Bony.
In the opposite match that season, Swansea lost 1-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium on November 3, 2013, when former Swan Steven Caulker popped up with the winne

Just keep it as a bubble
there are fans on both sides who are desperate for the dark ages to return. Early kick offs and bubble transport and lets get on with the rest of the season

This really is pathetic and laughable, grown men clinging on to every little snippet of 'news' around a 90 minute match due to take place in 3 months time. Some on here seem to get wood at the mention of bubbles, restrictions, ticket allocations, firms etc, etc, etc.
Yes its a derby and they are our local rivals, but its time to get out of the 80s and grow up a bit. I used to do the derbys at the vetch many years ago, but wouldn't dream of it now as it attracts the 'knuckle draggers' in stupidly expensive polo shirts from east and west.
Just saying like.

Pathetic. Keep it as a bubble and let's worry about the 3 months before that game first hey...
Any nobheads that want to kick off why not all meet up in a field away from game day and have you fun that way leave the rest of us worry about the football

In this day and age, if the SWP can't organise and police a RV point they really are failing society
We might be scum in their eyes due to past misdemeanours.......but just give us a chance. Life has moved on and they shouldn't be punishing the new younger fans for past discrepancies.

Totally agree, the Bristol City Derby we can now make our own way by train, OB meet us at station and we are then taken to a nearby pub where we stay until they escort us to the ground so why the hell can't this be done in Swansea? At least give it a try we all know the penalties for getting involved in football violence but if other high profile local derbies can be policed successfully and visiting fans escorted safely why can't ours? A 40 mile trip down the M4 takes bloody ages when you have 30 plus coaches in a convoy with a police escort!

Totally agree, when I went before it was a bubble and it really isn't that much of an issue to Swansea.

Scrap the bubble, it's pathetic and it's agaisnt our human rights. The last home game the atmopshere was awful. if it kicks off, then back to the bubble. nothing will happen around the CCS. swansea town on the other side, they will always be bitter for all things Cardiff. it's not our fault the place is a sh*thole
