Momentum

Despite a decent pre-season I don’t see the same momentum as last year. I felt going to Devon and Cornwall with a unified ‘up for it’ squad put us in a good place for a solid start. As it turned out it went better than that with 5 wins on the spin. However this time we went abroad with a number of players having already left, 2 came home to sign for other clubs and we lot the positive character influences of Bamba and Patterson. In addition, despite the season only a week away we still have not got a midfield ‘leader’ and a proven striker. Therefore the spine is not as solid as it should be. Despite Sir Neil saying this or that might or might not happen, this should have happened by now. It’s been said that Dalman and Choo have been working really hard on transfers. Really!!!!! So where are they then?

I may be a bit gullible here, but I believe them when they say they are working hard on adding to the squad. I have a feeling we will see one or two more players arriving this week, but I don't think we have a bad group already here, particularly at this level. Not sure if it's enough for a top six place, but they will certainly give it a go.

You may have a point but surely it is fair to wait until after the window has shut before judging the efforts of Dalman and Choo?

In essence I agree with you Steve and you have to cut your cloth accordingly. However, we must be aiming for automatic promotion and not just hope for a top six finish. This is not a strong league this year and the parachute payment does enable us to get a proven goal scorer; particularly as we haven’t had one for many years.

I'm hoping for the best, and if any manager can get us out of this league, we have him. :bluescarf:

Agree with you. A few days to go with respect to signing players so cant judge things yet but I would have expected us to have these key positions sorted by now. We are these two players short of being a side that will almost certainly challenge for automatic promotion.

I know you shouldn't judge a lot on pre-season but I feel a lot more confident after watching us beat a top 7 French side and seeing quite a few championship teams getting spanked yesterday. GK position looks great, Full back's look very good, Morrison and Flint looked like they'd played 100 + games together and the front line of Mendez, Bobby/Tomlin and Murphy will be dangerous against any team, and Bogle looked better than I've ever seen him physically. Just need a midfielder who's more composed on the ball and a top striker and I think we can compete for top 2. If we don't sign those players I think we'll be fighting to finish in the play offs instead. But hopefully we'll see something done this week.
