The club are believed to be closing in on a new signing in the form of Oxford United winger Gavin Whyte, but Warnock still has his heart set on a getting another striker over the line.
However, although targets have been identified, he admits there is currently nothing imminent.
"I'm not just going to sign anybody for the sake of it. We have got two major targets but at the moment I'm afraid neither of them we can say we've got a good chance of getting them.
"If you could give me two or three players this week I'd be absolutely delighted because I don't think we've got enough to think about automatic promotion."
Warnock is set to cast the net beyond the UK this summer, and insists the club's hierarchy are working flat out to bring the right man on board, although there are potential back-up options available.
"There's not a lot around [in the UK]," he added. "So we've got to do what we can. We got £8m with Ken and I know people will say you shouldn't sell him until you've got someone, but I just felt he needed the change and we did.
"It's not as easy as you think but we are working really hard. This morning I had meetings galore and calls, you name it.
NEIL WARNOCK:
"He's [Whyte] one of those we've talked about and I'm hoping we can bring two or maybe even three in this week if I can," he said after the win over Nice.
"I might have to forego certain areas. I'm really looking at strike force more than anything and we haven't had much luck, it's no good saying we're near. We aren't that near.
NEIL WARNOCK:
"I couldn’t be happier with how it’s gone overall. All four games have been what we wanted. They have all been physically hard – it was really hot out there against a really good side."

I’m frustrated too Wez but I think we’ve just gotta trust NW on this.

I know people will say that we have Bobby Reid but you still need someone who is useful in the air. A bit of a Target man. I know Dwight Gayle is similar but he would definitely score 15-25 goals in the Championship. NW keeps saying that the club are trying hard to bring a striker in well its time for them to pay the going rate to bring one in so that we don’t end up like last summer & regret the consequences. Come on City.

You do understand it's not like walking into a retail store, where you pick up a set of socks, maybe a T-Shirt and possibly a snazzy jacket......take them to the till and pay the asking price?
There are so many variables in a football transfer of which the majority are out of the buying club's control.
I'm sure the club are doing their best, if it doesn't happen it's not necessarily the club's fault. Be patient my friend.

It’s genuinely mental to sell your best (of a bad bunch) striker to a promotion rival unless you have someone lined up to replace him.

Stan_B wrote:The problem is that nobody knows whats going on behind closed doors. For all we know Warnock may have targeted and put in bids for half a dozen strikers and been knocked back either by the players or their clubs valuations or simply been outbid (wages or transfer fee) by another club. Negotiations take time and any attempts to sign a striker would not run concurrently with trying to sign another striker. I mean if you see something on ebay that has 2 listings from different sellers that you like you will bid on one at a time not both of them.
The club doesn't have an infinite transfer budget and can't offer premiership wages this season so Warnock has limited options. It wouldn't surprise me if we got a young premiership striker on loan. I think that may be a better option than a hasty permanent buy.

After the re brand fiasco success and demanding promotion ain’t my number one necessity. Enjoying watching my team in our rightful colours is all that matters. And enjoying a cracking atmosphere standing on the Canton.

Warnock has the right attitude - spending willy nilly is what we slated Ole for.
Andy Carroll is a good shout on a one year contract.
