NEIL WARNOCK: “ UPDATE ON NEW PLAYERS “

Sat Jul 27, 2019 5:41 pm

Neil Warnock gives concerning update in Cardiff City's striker search as Gavin Whyte move draws nearer

The club are believed to be closing in on a new signing in the form of Oxford United winger Gavin Whyte, but Warnock still has his heart set on a getting another striker over the line.

However, although targets have been identified, he admits there is currently nothing imminent.

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I'm not just going to sign anybody for the sake of it. We have got two major targets but at the moment I'm afraid neither of them we can say we've got a good chance of getting them.

"If you could give me two or three players this week I'd be absolutely delighted because I don't think we've got enough to think about automatic promotion."

Warnock is set to cast the net beyond the UK this summer, and insists the club's hierarchy are working flat out to bring the right man on board, although there are potential back-up options available.

"There's not a lot around [in the UK]," he added. "So we've got to do what we can. We got £8m with Ken and I know people will say you shouldn't sell him until you've got someone, but I just felt he needed the change and we did.

"It's not as easy as you think but we are working really hard. This morning I had meetings galore and calls, you name it.

NEIL WARNOCK:

"He's [Whyte] one of those we've talked about and I'm hoping we can bring two or maybe even three in this week if I can," he said after the win over Nice.

"I might have to forego certain areas. I'm really looking at strike force more than anything and we haven't had much luck, it's no good saying we're near. We aren't that near.

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I couldn’t be happier with how it’s gone overall. All four games have been what we wanted. They have all been physically hard – it was really hot out there against a really good side."

It's the same story as last season and the year before. Everyone knows what we need but it never happens!

I never expected big signings but I expected more than what we have got. Let's be honest if Manga didnt want to leave we wouldnt have Flint so our business would be Vaulks and 2 squad players.
Not good enough after what we lost from our squad.
I was really hopeful but now I'm thinking we may struggle to make the play offs.

I’m frustrated too Wez but I think we’ve just gotta trust NW on this.

Let's be patient and wait what business we do, before making judgements on the season. We all know its a long one in the Championship.

I am pretty confident a striker will be signed, who that is remains unknown but I will leave judgement until I have seen.

Everyone knows that we urgently needed a striker last summer but City left it late to get a deal done. Looks like the same scenario this summer. Never mind about a 4th centre back/winger what about a 20 goal Championship striker?

I know people will say that we have Bobby Reid but you still need someone who is useful in the air. A bit of a Target man. I know Dwight Gayle is similar but he would definitely score 15-25 goals in the Championship. NW keeps saying that the club are trying hard to bring a striker in well its time for them to pay the going rate to bring one in so that we don’t end up like last summer & regret the consequences. Come on City.

You do understand it's not like walking into a retail store, where you pick up a set of socks, maybe a T-Shirt and possibly a snazzy jacket......take them to the till and pay the asking price?

There are so many variables in a football transfer of which the majority are out of the buying club's control.

I'm sure the club are doing their best, if it doesn't happen it's not necessarily the club's fault. Be patient my friend. :bluebird:

I do think there is a striker close. Just a hunch

It’s genuinely mental to sell your best (of a bad bunch) striker to a promotion rival unless you have someone lined up to replace him.

Like you say, not quite the same as going to Tesco and buying something. Be interesting to have a name or two of a 20 goal striker who is not only affordable, but would choose us over any other club (and there will be a few for a prolific championship striker) and fit into our system. Easy to say just go and sign a 20 goal striker. Problem is, there are not many around, and no point in signing any old striker just to keep the fans onside. Need to remember, it is not the club's fault that we do not already have a £15m striker on our books. Now the club has to go out and do it all again. Easier said than done.

So you would have turned down £8m for KZ?

If I didn’t have a striker lined up yes I would have turned it down. I agree it’s a great price for him though

As I always say, it’s sll opinions but I’d have no problem chucking Bogle in til we get someone in; even if it meant waiting til the last week of the window.
I think NW had just lost patience with KZ mate.

The problem is that nobody knows whats going on behind closed doors. For all we know Warnock may have targeted and put in bids for half a dozen strikers and been knocked back either by the players or their clubs valuations or simply been outbid (wages or transfer fee) by another club. Negotiations take time and any attempts to sign a striker would not run concurrently with trying to sign another striker. I mean if you see something on ebay that has 2 listings from different sellers that you like you will bid on one at a time not both of them.

The club doesn't have an infinite transfer budget and can't offer premiership wages this season so Warnock has limited options. It wouldn't surprise me if we got a young premiership striker on loan. I think that may be a better option than a hasty permanent buy.

When the end of the window looms closer we should then have the upper hand on negotiations unlike now when I’d imagine many players and agents are keeping their options open for now.

So let me get this straight on the one hand he says he's not that near signing a striker but the sentence before hand he says he's hopeful of bringing in 2 maybe even 3 players in this week if he can. Honestly lads i'd take a lot of what he says regarding transfers with a pinch of salt. Wouldn't surprise me if Whyte signs in the next 48 hours and we get a midfielder and striker in before Wigan

Calm down everyone. Every team out there wants to sign that 20 goal a season striker what makes us any different ? It is what it is we go with what we got. Can’t wait for the season to start.
After the re brand fiasco success and demanding promotion ain’t my number one necessity. Enjoying watching my team in our rightful colours is all that matters. And enjoying a cracking atmosphere standing on the Canton.

I'm hopeful of some decent quality in Warnock's loan signings.
It's easier to attract players and do deals when your team is in the Premier League, but we should be able to get some decent ones. The loan deals often have clauses that players are expected to play or be in the matchday squad, but loans only make sense for us if we want to play them in every game anyway.

He said he has major targets and back ups. Well cant blame him for not just signing anyone and getting his back ups through the door until the major targets are dead in the water. Maybe its just a waiting game but id rather be patient and get the better quality player in if thats what its going to take.

The majority of City fans are fully behind our greatest manager and trust in him. I have no doubts and know we will get promotion, just sick of all the negative comments

Fans would moan if we spent a lot on an average striker.

Warnock has the right attitude - spending willy nilly is what we slated Ole for.

Andy Carroll is a good shout on a one year contract.

:o you would spend money on Carroll? What for, someone for Jazz to talk to in doc?

Think we should have learned our lesson on being retired players holiday club.

Young Premier lad on loan I think will happen.
