Coming here for £2m according to Oxford Utd forum
"Whyte is going to Cardiff.
He’s said his goodbye’s to the squad. Fee in the region of £2 million I believe."

Considering they wanted 4 million, 2 million is a fair price if true, probably add on's if we are promoted
Fri Jul 26, 2019 3:14 pm
Always one to give somebody a chance before they join but a player from a struggling Oxford Utd outfit doesn't exactly bring me much hope.
Should have went in for Del Toro who we were linked with, a pacy tall striker who scored 19 goals last season.

I can’t say I’ve seen any of him, but when the clubs fans who we’re buying off are outraged it’s normally a good sign. And add to that the success we’ve had with Mendez and Etheridge, I’m fairly optimistic about it.

Good player, only 23 aswell and at 2m is great price, good business, just striker and centre mid left now! Possibly even a right back if we get given the opportunity

Maybe we did go for him you never know the true story about targets until NW speaks or we've signed them. As for player mentioned lots come from lower clubs and prosper lot times need the opportunity/chance to prove it

Not sure if this any more than a rumour, but you never know how well someone can perform at a certain level until given the opportunity. I remember Liverpool buying Keegan from Scunthorpe, and at the time I knew nothing more about him than I know about Whyte. We all know how good he turned out to be. Maybe Warnock could unearth a gem who could be just what we need.

Sounds like he's ready for the step up, but time will tell.
Just hope fans don't write him off before he's started.

Isn't this one of the blokes that got caught on film with his pants around his ankles after a night out in Belfast.

Now being reported by NI sports paper! Close to agreeing personal terms there is substantial sell on clause for previous club..
Fri Jul 26, 2019 6:53 pm
I was totally underwhelmed when we signed a certain Mark Delaney and what a signing he turned out to be so I'm hoping he will be another good signing
Fri Jul 26, 2019 6:53 pm
Very happy with this signing be very good impact player off the bench and will defo push Murphy and Mendez Laing for a place
Gutted we haven't gone in for sawyers from Brentford would be great signing sit in front of the back 4. But off to west Brom apparently
Fri Jul 26, 2019 6:59 pm
This was reported earlier this week. Already a Northern Ireland international . Again, is Warnock leaving us in good shape... We are not short of wingers are we !
Fri Jul 26, 2019 7:14 pm
We need a proven scorer at championship level so just trust in NW s judgement that ......would worry me if he’s the only front player we sign but then Warnock gets it right more often than me!!!

Needing and getting are two separate things! same as agreeing a fee but player not wanting to come here never easy to marry both things together especially for good striker as usually others are in position to offer more particularly in wages.

Just looked at the Oxford United forum and they're bloody livid

They see Gavin Whyte as their best player and think they should be getting 4-5m for him, so the fact that we're getting him for 2m to be a back up to Mendez-Laing, Josh Murphy, and Junior Hoilett is good business imo. He's at a good age (23) and seems to have done pretty well in an average Oxford team last season so here's hoping he can make the step up to the Championship if he does join us of course

We’ve signed Nelson from Oxford and he’s looked very decent.
What does it matter what team a player is from anyway? You’re saying you wanna give players a chance in one sentence, then write him off in the next.
Baffling.

I can’t even think of a player called Del Toro, let alone one who scored 19 last season. I certainly haven’t seen us linked with him.

Pathetic aint it. Considering where players like Etheridge and NML came from too you would think our fans would know better by now.
I thought this guy was a striker but apparently not. i still expect at least two more signings before the window closes.

Be nice if he repeated his last debut

scored with first touch for Ireland
Welcome to the mad house Gavin

For what it’s worth I work with a chap who is a huge Oxford fan and says we will sell Whyte for 10 times what we paid for him.
