Anyone else a bit concerned?

Thu Jul 25, 2019 9:37 pm

I know there’s still a week left of the window left however.. we’ve lost arter, camarasa, gunnarson in the middle and only brought vaulks in which leaves us still very short in the middle.

We’ve lost kadeem Harris and not replaced him and also zohore... Warnock said we need 2/3 more players but I think we still need about 4 minimum even though I can’t see that in the next week.

The last 2 windows haven’t really been a success especially last summer when we went into the season short really hope it’s not the same case.. even though tomlin could be a new signing if he gets given a chance!

Fingers crossed we get to see some quality signings coming in the next few days! :ayatollah:

If we don't sign anyone before deadline date then yes as I don't think we have enough as it stands to compete for promotion, having said that we are not a million miles away but do need a few more in.

Not yet

Two weeks left of the transfer window

Plenty of time

We could lose players too

Re: Anyone else a bit concerned?

Thu Jul 25, 2019 10:51 pm

Still 2 weeks of the transfer window left as it closes on the 8th of August. Have to be honest id expect to see at least 2 players (CM, ST) coming in between now and the end of the window, and if they're better than what we already have then I think we have a good chance. But they need to be top quality players and not players who can "do a job".

Re: Anyone else a bit concerned?

I’m abit concerned but I think that’s due to lack of rumours, there keeping it very close knitted which isn’t a bad thing really but frustrating as I want to know who we’re looking at so we have something to discuss

Ahh my bad I thought it closed the day before the season starts this year.. a bit more time than expected then!

This time of the year its always the same. Its not easy trying to sign a 20goal a season striker at a decent price, every other feckers trying to do the same.

The problem is IF the club do not sign a decent striker before the start of the season then they clearly haven’t learnt their lesson from last season. They have had all a long time to identify possible targets & then this window to get a deal done. Hopefully a striker is signed before the end of the window.

Re: Anyone else a bit concerned?

Fri Jul 26, 2019 6:23 am

They can have a list as long as their arm but if a player don't fancy coming here what the club supposed to do?

Re: Anyone else a bit concerned?

Fri Jul 26, 2019 6:53 am

We have lost our best defender.
Lost our 2 best midfielders.
Lost our main striker.
However, I do think Flint will be a gem.
Will at least mean we have another option other than targeting Morrison every single time on set pieces.
Not sure if Vaulks can do what Arter did, but I can only see City being even more direct than last time and bypassing the midfield anyway. So Vaulks will get neck ache from watching the ball fly over his head.
I'd say we have already got enough to give it a good go in the Championship, but ideally another striker to play off Bobby would give us more options.

Re: Anyone else a bit concerned?

I’m not concerned at all as there’s plenty of time left.

Virtually every City fan realises we need a couple of players in before the season.

Warnock has forgotten more than most on here have ever known about building a squad and the transfer system so you can bet that him and the club are working hard to get the transfers over the line.

Re: Anyone else a bit concerned?

Fri Jul 26, 2019 7:02 am

So far this window has been awful

Out including loans

Gunnarsson
Niasse
Camarasa
Arter
Zahore
Manga
Harris

Players in:

Flint - championship
Vaulks - Championship
Nelson - league 2

All the players lost were international standard and we have bought in lower league standard replacements.
The window has not gone well so far hopefully that changes quickly because our squad is severely weaker than last season at the moment

Totally agree, not concerned at all at the moment... I would be amazed if there is not at least one big money signing and probably 2 decent loan signings

We’ve got a very good squad at the moment but everyone knows we are short of a striker and CM and I’m sure Mr Warnock, Choo, Dalman and Tan are also well aware of the fact.

Hopefully, we have learnt from our previous shortcomings in the transfer market and it won’t happen again

Re: Anyone else a bit concerned?

Fri Jul 26, 2019 7:11 am

Yes we are leaving it late again but like some have said it's not easy getting these transfers over the line.
I'm also wondering how much of this wedge we received from the Prem is being held back for Sala and projects like the new training complex ?

Re: Anyone else a bit concerned?

Fri Jul 26, 2019 7:11 am

It appears a little quiet on the transfer front. However I would hope that NW has already lined up 2 signings with a possible 2 loans.

In fairness there are a lot of good players out there who are still available going into the last 13 days of the window.

NW had meetings with the club hierarchy at the end of the season about funds, if that’s not true then I wonder what it was about.

Clubs cards are close to their chests now so let’s wait.

Re: Anyone else a bit concerned?

Fri Jul 26, 2019 7:13 am

Not yet, I'll. Judge the squad once the window closes.

Re: Anyone else a bit concerned?

I have a feeling we’ll end up with something like this before the season is over

£12m : A striker our fans will consider a huge signing, possibly a similar level to Emiliano Sala if Neil gets it right.

£5m: Harry Arter (possibly?)

4m: A winger who has decent pace with some potential, similar to what we did with Mendez-Laing except considering the 4m possibly gets us a more experienced championship winger.

Loan: possibly a striker at a premiership club, either young or just not getting games at the moment.

I would say that would make our squad look back to being promotion contenders.

Im not concerned one bit and to clarify what you have said above:

Gunnarsson - he left at the right time for us and we brought In Vaulks who imo will be better than Gunnar = no loss
Niasse - couldn’t hit a barn door = no loss
Camarasa - we couldn’t do anything about him leaving unless we stayed in the premier league in which case imo he would’ve stayed = big loss
Arter - see Camarasa
Zahore - (I think you mean Zohore), we got £8m for a striker that had half a good season in 3 years = no loss
Manga - needed to go back to France and we got £3m for him which was excellent for a 31 year old that we would’ve lost for nothing next year but I think Flint will be adequate = big loss
Harris - hardly played and we have better already here = no loss

Players in:

Flint - championship but can step in
Vaulks - Championship but will be better than Gunnar
Nelson - league 2 but will do a great job
You forgot Joe Day which imho is better than Smithies and we brought in the Irish lad who will do well. Stop bashing players before they even kick a ball.
All this highlighting of players being brought in from lower leagues doesn’t mean a thing, NML has done a great job from Rochdale (league 2)

Lots clubs buy players from leagues below themselves, if we only brought in players from championship or above we won't sign anyone?

We have brought in lower standard replacements because we are in a lower league now. We are not going to replace Arter and Camarasa with better quality as we do not have that sort of money to spend. Just replacing Camarasa and Arter with equal quality would cost around £15mill. If you think the club will spend that sort of money and 2 players and then still expect them to bring in another 2 players then you seriously need to wake up. Etheridge and NML were brought in from league 1 and they've handled the step up pretty well.

There is still 2 weeks left of the window keep the faith. I am pretty sure we will see at least another 3 players come in before the window shuts.

I think Nelson could be our Roger Johnson I reckon that’s a decent appointment tbf Zohore we won’t really miss definitely need another striker though Tomlin should be like a new signing for us too let’s see the first game before we criticise

I will and I hope you are correct but I can’t see see £21 million plus wages to match being spent plus a premier player with another loan fee and his wages.

We have the smallest wage from the clubs relegated from the premier league. In fact our wages are probably somewhere around 7th or 8th highest in the championship. For example I would image Fulham, Huddersfield, Leeds, West Brom, Middlesbrough, Derby and Stoke would likely have a bigger wage bill. We’ve just sold 2 of our key players for a total of 11m or so. If we use the money we got them for transfers that’s already 11m, and you’re telling me we can’t afford to spend 10m ontop of that atleast? When we got relegated I think everyone was aware that we would keep most of our squad (more than we have now) and not sell anyone really, and still be able to spend about 10-15m and be financially stable. So why has that changed, even when we’ve sold players for 11m

‘And you’re telling me we can’t afford 10m ......’

I’m not telling you what we can or cannot afford because I don’t know and and neither do you.
You’re guessing and trying to do the sums when you have no idea what we’re willing to spend.
You use the words ‘if’ and ‘I imagine’ but you know nothing except guess work.

You’re talking about other clubs wages, Middlesbrough, Derby and Stoke ... that’s irrelevant to Cardiff City.

Like I I say, I hope we spend big on quality players within our budgets but unless we sell another Zohore type player for a big fee or several players like Tomlin and Madine I personally can’t see players coming in like you are talking about.

Just my opinion, I may be wrong.
