' My Opinion / Not a good idea by CCFC '

Thu Jul 25, 2019 9:58 am

Not every fan carries cards and what about the 15/16 year olds who watch City without their patients.

To do this straight away and not built up, kids have No cards, not thinking of the fans once again.

What about our 14-16 year old followers , we have thousands, cash only.

NO Cash Sales at Cardiff City Stadium

How about Kids who come on their own?

How about when you send your kids down to get a burger etc?

How come I has vent seen other clubs banning cash?

Fans have moaned for years that not everyone has cards to buy tickets, never mind now food.

City will lose out big time, I bet you during the season this gets changed to a cash till being opened.

I agree - Uncle Ted's burger van on Sloper Road far better ( on a few occasions last season it was our highlight of the day! Lol ).

I keep saying it, just buy a prepaid MasterCard/Visa card from WHSmith or somewhere like that. They’re like credit cards except you just buy it in the shop for the value it’s worth and then you use it until all the money has been used.

I maybe wrong but I think I read Spurs is the same now.

I think it's a great idea for speed, I never bother buying anything as queues are to long but if this speeds it up which it should then great.

As Annis said though not ideal for kids. Maybe the club should sell prepaid "City" cards they can use.

It's certainly the future though, I very rarely have cash on me these days.

It’s a sign of the times. It costs so much for businesses to handle cash nowadays that any losses from lost sales are likely to be more than offset by reduced bank charges. There is also less chance for cash to go “missing” too!

I first came across this at the bars at Cheltenham races in March where I had to teach my 80 year mother about contactless payments ! Cash is rapidly going the same way as Cheques!

Luke, this will hurt a big section of our fan base, especially the youngsters.

I don't use cards either at football, never taken them, so I won't buy anything.

I heard the other day that at the new Spurs ground , they control everything themselves.
So they have their on micro brewery that makes their own beer (keeps the costs down).
They make their own cheese, they own and run all the food outlets in the stadium etc etc

So for Daniel Levy - he has maximised every aspect of the money - and it all goes to the club.

Compare that to us, very expensive p!ss lager, over priced / poor quality food.

Do we still use that company called Compass - that Ridsdale sold the food rights to ?

Re: ' My Opinion / Not a good idea by CCFC '

Thu Jul 25, 2019 10:49 am

The burger stalls outside sell lovely cheese burgers, always a treat before a game, the choice in the stadium is appalling and overpriced but they know what they're doing as mug punters still buy the crap.

£5 for a soggy horse burger and a bottle of pepsi £2 plus - absolute shambles.

I've never bought much in the ground, the odd drink from time to time, id never buy food, it looks awful lol.
Did you used to buy much in the ground before Annis? its just change really, if you wanted to buy something then you would just take your card?

If it speeds up the queue then i'm more likely to buy drinks to be honest. I can see it working but it will take some getting used to for some.

Like you said I think the issue will be with children, I don't see why they cant have 1 cash till in every other section especially to begin with.

I wonder if they would bring up the idea of "City Cash" for kids they could use on a card that they provide.

Luke,

Ninian Park yes I did at Ninian Park, but in this stadium, cold / rubbish over priced food.

My Daughter gets money at h/t and her and friends by food and drinks.

Never taken a card to a football match.

Thousands of youngsters go and don’t have cards as they are to young, many without parents.

To do this all straight away will back fire big time.

Re: ' My Opinion / Not a good idea by CCFC '

Birmingham brought a cashless card in last season and Wolves start this Saturday with card only payments. Wolves will have a single cash register for the first few games of the season while fans acclimatise.

It will be everywhere soon enough.

You can set up a kids debit account from the age of 11 or stop being lazy and go and get your kids food for them.

I guess that's personal choice then though, you can bring a card but choose not to which is fair enough.

Its like when I go into the indoor market in Cardiff, most of them require cash so then I have to make the decision of if I can be bothered to get cash out and then have to carry the change around for an age as never use cash really or go somewhere else like Asda etc. Quite often I just wont bother going to the market because of it but then if I know I need something I will just be prepared and get cash out. All down to choice for most adults and I don't think that's an issue personally.

Like you said the issue will be with children, and like the scenario you said above with parents wanting kids/friends to go down for food/drinks. hopefully the club have thought of this and have an answer as no doubt there are plenty of ways around it.

Really the club should have thought through this and given more information or plans for children when announcing it.

I just mentioned it to someone in work who said the Arms Park is the same now and that kids can buy tokens with cash. I guess that's one way around although I still think some kind of "City cash" card that people can prepay into would be better.

I'm with you mate.

It's a ridiculous idea for many reasons, notwithstanding the youngsters issue what will they propose to do should the systems go down, chuck everything away and lose out on all that revenue.

And arnt chip and pin machines run through the Internet? Would it really cope with 20,000 fans all on their phones and thousands of bank transactions all going through at once?

It's not a bad idea but to go 'all in' without any sort of trial and still a cash option seemed daft to me.

I think that is how Birmingham do it. You load cash up onto a dedicated card.

Re: ' My Opinion / Not a good idea by CCFC '

You have to move with the times! Keep up!

We have people bashing the club for not moving with the times and now we have people bashing the club for being progressive!

Most people these days carry card, young people pay with contactless on the phone

Credit cards
Debit cards
Apple pay/NFC Payments
Go henry cards
Prepay cash cards

All can be accepted.

Changing to cashless tills isn't wrong it's progress, telling everyone a week before it happens gives people notice and is responsible.

It would only be wrong if no one knew before Saturday.

And to answer the comment why do it all at once and not gradually?
Last season all tills run both cash and card. The club would've analysed the information as what percentages paid cash compared to card and decided on this action.

I applaud the club for moving with the times like most other good modern progressive clubs.

It’s not just the club that will be doing it it’s going to be happening lots of places and it is convenient.

They shouldn’t just say no cash transactions straight away I think the sensible thing would be for them to slowly phase it out.

As for the kids not having bank cards I doubt they spend £9 on a burger or £2.50 on a bottle of pop in the stadium anyway.

Stephen,

I am gobsmacked by our Club not just splitting it and not just say doing a trial on certain areas first.

But this cannot work card only for the kids, No way can it.
