“ I was told yesterday “

Tue Jul 23, 2019 8:36 pm

I was told yesterday by a few Middlesbrough fans that Aden Flint never settled up there as his Wife never did and all she wanted to do was move back to the Bristol area.

So a happy Wife, family a happy husband :thumbright:

As to his ability then said quality, strong, but very slow .

But they reckon we def will see a better play than they did as Flint will he settled back down here.

Flint played well during his Bristol City day’s.

So readily looking forward to Flint being in City’s team this season and the best of him :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I think he's a good defender at this level and a great signing.

Remember him being difficult to play against when he was at Bristol.

My concern is the slow bit especially alongside Morrison. I'd like to see a pacey right back come in who maybe able to cover them.

If he was a replacement for Morrison I’d have no issues, can’t say I’ll be confident with Flint and Morrison in the same side

By championship standards, I don’t think SM is dreadfully slow and from what I remember I think AF is around the same pace. Besides, I think we lost more goals from defenders ‘switching off’ and not clearing their lines than our centre backs being outpaced
We tended to give possession to the opposition and sit back and hit on the break last time we were in the Championship so I think the positives that AF bring (aerial dominance and threat in attack as well as being a ‘no nonsense’ defender) outweighs his apparent lack of pace.
As I always say though, that’s only my opinion.

Agree - And glad he is here with us this season. We need a squad, just need more focus on other positions now.

Yes he is slow but reads the game very well and is not bad on the ball for a big man him and morrison will get get double figures between them if delivery is right fancy a couple of corners whitts priceless

As a player I have no issue with him. My issue is that the combination of him and Morrison looks worryingly slow.

Will Warnock counter act that by also playing Nelson as a centre back three ?

Flint's lack of pace would be an issue if we played a high line and defenders pressed the ball high up the pitch.

But we have never employed those tactics under Neil.

Our full backs play deep and the centre halves cover the box square in front of the penalty box

Peltier does not overlap, Morrison does not commit to the tackle (unless its in the air) anywhere near the centre circle. This is the midfields job (Arter last season) I'm guessing Ralls this season whilst last season Gunnar played in front of the Centre halves - this season I'm guessing its Vaulks

We invite the opposition on by letting them have the ball and then hit them with pace out wide and up front - we desperately need to replace Zohore with someone like Kodjia. Bogle and Madine do not fit the system - Ward does but he doesn't have the physicality.

Our tactics are to kill games by not giving any space basically! Barcelona we ain't! Though losing Manga's pace at the back will be a big blow he did forget his positioning a few times - I don't think Flint or Morrison will.

In an absolute nutshell mate!

He is so slow.... that would be ok if Morrison and Bamba were quick but they are not.

Replacing Manga with Flint is awful awful business

Manga is quicker but Flint is the better defender in my opinion. Particularly the way we play. Imho.

That is a good point. Mark Hudson was a slow centre back (most are) but he more than made up for that by his reading of the game.
