Bluebirds boss Tan is desperate to achieve instant return to the Premier League

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan is considering selling his 20 per cent stake in American MLS side Los Angeles FC because he wants to focus his money and energies on an instant return to the Premier League for the Bluebirds.

Tan invested in the glamorous Californian team five years ago, his co-owners including actor Will Ferrell, basketball legend Magic Johnson and YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley.

However, even though the side are roaring nine points clear at the top of the MLS table and on course for the title, Tan is said to be thinking of scaling down his interest.

He also recently reduced his controlling stake in Bosnian champions FK Sarajevo, who recently played Celtic in the Champions League.

Malaysian media report Tan wants to concentrate his financial resources on ensuring his "beloved Cardiff City FC return to the Premier League."

They estimate Tan's shareholding in the American side could be worth between £80million and £120million.

Will Ferrell and Vincent Tan have invested in the American side
Tan will also continue to invest in Belgium club FC Kortrijk, who act as a feeder team to Cardiff. Star striker Kenneth Zohore joined the Bluebirds from the Belgians, before recently being sold to West Brom in an £8m deal.

News of Tan's commitment to the Bluebirds is the second piece of good news Cardiff fans have had from the hierarchy this summer.

Chairman Mehmet Dalman, a close confidante of Tan, was considering a buyout of Championship rivals Charlton but has chosen to throw in his lot with the Bluebirds.

Tan, Dalman, chief executive Ken Choo and manager Neil Warnock have been going through Cardiff transfer targets in a bid to put together a squad capable of finishing in the top two this season.

Zohore and top defender Bruno Manga have left, but £6m has been spent on centre-half Aden Flint from Bristol City, while Wales international Will Vaulks, defender Curtis Nelson and goalkeeper Joe

But would he get in the team before Josh Murphy or NML though

In all seriousness this is a big move if true but does he have a buyer for his stake ? Unless somebody is ready to invest approx £100m then it means very little right now other than seeming to demonstrate VTs longer term commitment to us.

Regarding Tan
Wonder exactly what it means, i.e. investing more money in City or spending more time on them? Could be a scaling down due to age, Dalman recently close to exit etc too? Not sure the team rebuild shows necessary ambition for an instant promotion but we will see. Here's hoping.

Surely even if VT was to generate a £100m+ by selling his stake in Los Angeles FC he couldn't directly invest that sum in team rebuilding because of FFP constraints. What he could do however is clear our debt, although most of it is owed to him any way!

VT did promise to clear our debt by 2021 which of course is only 17 months away. I don't know his initial investment in LAFC but he would seem to have made a tidy profit if he sells for £100m+ Maybe that money is earmarked to clear our debt in some way clearing the way for his exit post 2021?

Very ambiguous statement because from what we've seen so far hes not made much effort to strengthen side for promotion push... :old:

Like others have stated probably looking to use the monies to reduce the debt , then look to move on.

That makes absolutely no sense at all though.

The debt in the club is owed to Tan why would he sell things he owns to pay himself back?

That is a good question. It 'could' be things are not always that straight forward. The shares in LAFC might be owned by a company which is owned by VT. The company would then have to pay VT in exchange for equity. I don't know if that is the case but the financial world is a bit of a maze

Also in 2021 our parachute payments will expire. If we haven't returned to the PL by then VT will need £13m per season to invest in CCFC which is allowed by FFP to make up some of the shortfall. Maybe he is getting his ducks in a row?

And the above is another possibility. Make certain noises but do the exact opposite....

I hope he's not looking to loan the club more money that we don't have just to strengthen, that would put us back to square one like many years ago.

Well hes paying off the debt we owe him in shape of equity so if this is plan just means he'll be around longer? But think he is restricted by ffp as to how much can give club per year!

His "beloved Cardiff City"

He hardly ever turned up last season when we were in the Premier League so it's safe to assume that the only reason he wants to get back to the Premier League as soon as he can is purely financial.

And that's fair enough.

But to say we are his "beloved" - do me a favour.
