All week I've been concerned. Will we even make playoffs?

Sun Jul 21, 2019 11:37 pm

I genuinely don't think we'll win very many games with our current squad. Defense will probably start leaking goals in now Bruno has gone, and Bamba out until October. Our midfield has lost a huge leader in Gunnarson, I actually think there's question marks over Vaulks too. I think our attack is lacking firstly because our striker department in thin and lacking much genuine quality and spark. Our wingers are Hoilett who is not far from how Noone was for us when he started losing his pace. Murphy & Mendez-laing have to start every game and if one of them get injured or out of form I don't think there's a genuine like for like replacement on our bench as out squad currently stands.

The arguement about "this squad got us promoted" simply isn't true. Gunnarssons & Brysons Endeavour ontop of A classy Marko Grujic gave us a solidity in midfield which is hard considering we play a certain way that most typically only workhorses thrive in, so we were very lucky to have Grujic when we did to offer us that extra bit of creativity as well as being a unit. Our defence is half of what it was in the promotion season too, now that Manga is gone and bamba is injured.

I've started to see recently since we've lost Ken & Bruno that this season might not be as exciting as I thought. I'm genuinely concerned we're going to achieve mid table or 9th or something. Playoffs with our current squad? I don't see why..

Hope I'm wrong, just can't see what sort of player(s) we can get considering we're in the championship. It's not as if Liverpool are going to loan us Marko Grujic who I think is not far off a top 10 premier league standard at least.

Get a grip, the season hasn't started yet, you don't know who we will get in, we've moved some players out to bring some players in!!!!

As per usual most of our fans massively underate our players and overate the players of other teams.

We have the best manager for this league out of any of the teams and have one of the strongest squads.

At the moment no I don't think we would, we are a number is position short but we will add players. Over to Warnock now.

I think we will piss this league tbh

you’re right mate.. if we’re not going to spend £180m, we should tell the League we’re not playing this season, no point..

Gunnarson was injured most of the season and wasn't very good the season we were promoted. He is more suited to the Prem. Bryson is no better than bacuna

Re: All week I've been concerned. Will we even make playoffs

Mon Jul 22, 2019 8:10 am

bryson (when we had him) was way better than bacuna ffs

Its easy to be negative, but one positive difference we have in this squad that we didnt last time we were promoted, is Murphy and Reid. Of course they have to be used well, and we need at least 2 quality signings to join them. but no reason we cant be in the top 6 at least.

Mon Jul 22, 2019 8:54 am

would take Bryson over Bacuna any day,Bacuna is a pile of shite. :bluebird:

Not panicking just yet but our strikers do look very ordinary. Bogle may mever be good enough to be a championship player and Madine and Ward are just two ok journeymen. Think we will be be ok in midfield if Tomlin comes through and the signs look promising. We will miss Manga but the defence looks ok for the championship. I think Nelson will turn out to be better than expected. For me the priority would be a good goal scoring striker someone like Assombalonga.

All Bryson did was run about like a headless chicken. Ralls far better at this level. Imho.
Personally the team is puck if the season started without any more additions would be -

Etheridge

Peltier Morrison. Flint. Bennett

Vaulks. Ralls

NML. Tomlin. Murphy

Reid. /. Paterson.

Im not concerned in the slightest, I enjoy the challenge of seeing us compete and getting the better over other teams etc.

Re: All week I've been concerned. Will we even make playoffs

Mon Jul 22, 2019 9:10 am

I'm sticking with my original prediction. I think with the rub of the green we may just possibly sneak into the play off positions, but even that is not going to be easy. Would'nt argue with the OP's prediction of possibly just missing out, especially if injuries and suspensions don't go our way. Going to be hard work in a tough league, but I would be surprised if we finish outside of the top ten

We will finish second again IMO. So many negative fans it’s unreal.

I think that team would really struggle if im honest, midtable probably.

Im fully confident we will bring in at least 3 good players though.

All opinions mate but the midfield isn’t far off the one that got us up last time. I’m assuming Tomlin is fully fit too.
I’m sure some signings will be in soon.

Even if Tomlin is fit he hasn't been a top championship player for some years, questionmarks for me even if eh can keep off the weight which of course should be the minimum anyway.

Lack of pace at the back, right back still not solved.

But the biggest concern is upfront, I think Reid would struggle on his own with our direct style and Patterson just doesn't have the ability or the link up play. No doubt we will bring in at least 2 strikers though.

Tomlin is a bit of a wildcard, but i really am hopeful that he will be an important player for us.

as luke said though, we need more. and id expect us to get them too

I agree but there’s a (dreaded) YouTube video doing the rounds called Tomlin skills and goals or something and considering he barely played for us there’s a few from his time with us as well as with Forest.
I agree that we can’t pin our hopes completely on LT but he’s fitter than he’s ever been (seems to be anyway) and if hes100% up for it, I’m hoping g he’ll be like a new signing.
Sort of agree with the right back conundrum (we have 2 great left backs!) but as long as he stays fit, Peltier has been pretty decent and by all accounts Nelson can play RB too.
As you both say, I reckon we’ll have a first team midfielder and striker in by the Wigan game.

Isn't Patterson an international right back? NW needs to use players in their natural position and play to teams strengths not play a style of football that is hit and miss depending on opposition? We are world beaters in head tennis why not try something different we have the skillful players to be really good footballing side .

He's a much better Striker/Midfielder than Right Back, he even said himself he prefers playing in midfield, why force a player to play in a position they're not good at just because thats where the international team has plopped him

Paterson is crap, he definitely isn’t a striker and he isn’t a midfielder and by Warnock’s own admission he isn’t a right back. Yeah he will win headers, he can scuff the odd goal but he is dreadful. I was hoping he and Ralls would be sold but obviously other managers aren’t looking for players who will run around all day, they clearly want players who can actually play.

But, it’s not all doom and gloom, we are strong at the back, out wide (if they can add some consistency to their game) we have great options, and with another decent central footballing midfielder to sit in their with Vaulks and if we can get service to Reid and a decent new striker we’ll be in with a shout.

For some on here I don’t think it is under rating our players or over rating other sides, realistically we punched well above our weight last promotion season, and we put up a fight last but we lack quality, we allow other sides space to play and the idea is we break out wide quickly, lump it forward to win free kicks and aim for central defenders off every single set piece. We then blame our strikers for being crap and over rated with the no service whatsoever we provide and lack of goals they score from their no service.

Is he better ? Personally he was crap upfront didn't win headers never held ball up result we were disjointed for long periods. Why would an international manager play a player in wrong position when he doesn't have to? NW forced him upfront when we had several players who could play upfront .. :o

From what little we saw of Tomlin, I thought his passing was the best by far..
He can also find the killer pass. Hope he comes through..
