Omar’s USA reminder to Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock
By Terry Phillips

New Mexico United 1, Cardiff City 1

Omar Bogle reminded Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock what he has to offer by scoring a stunning goal in North America.

The Bluebirds were 1-0 down against New Mexico United when Bogle whipped a free-kick into the top corner.

Former Wigan Athletic forward Bogle, aged 26, is a powerful, 6ft 2ins striker who is more than capable of making an impact for City during the 2018-19 Championship season.

He has scored three goals in 10 first team appearances, but hasn’t played for Warnock’s team since December 2017 and had loan spells with Birmingham City and Portsmouth last season.

Bogle, a £1m signing from Wigan, is under contract until next summer and, with Kenneth Zohore completing an £8m to West Brom, could get his chance in attack.

Warnock used 18 players with goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, Lee Peltier, captain Sean Morrison and Nathanial Mendez-Laing completing 90 minutes.

New Mexico went ahead after three minutes when Japanese midfield player Ken Akamatsu scored with a left-footed finish to give the hosts a third-minute lead.

Josh Murphy and Bobby DeCordova-Reid were prominent for Cardiff in their attempts to create an equaliser, Joe Bennett’s low cross flashed across the New Mexico goalmouth.

The Bluebirds continued to press in the opening period, as De Cordova-Reid was denied by a sensational stop by American ‘keeper Ben Beaury.

Mendez-Laing saw a wicked delivery from the left turned against a post by Murphy before Joe Ralls almost found the bottom corner from long range.

City’s first opportunity of the second period came when Will Vaulks’ cross was almost turned home at the back stick by newly introduced substitute Bogle.

The equaliser came on the hour when Bogle fired home from a free-kick, while the same player then saw another effort ricochet off the ‘keeper and against the left-hand post.

Cardiff almost snatched a winner when James Waite threaded a pass which freed Greg Cunningham down the left and his cross looked to certain to be headed home by Curtis Nelson.

The third and final pre-season test for City is against Real Valladolid in Edmonton, Canada.

Cardiff City: Etheridge, Peltier, Morrison, Brown (Coxe 70), Bennett (Cunningham 60), Vaulks (Waite 75), Ralls (Nelson 59), De Cordova-Reid (Damour 59), Mendez-Laing, Murphy (Bolger 70), Ward (Bogle 52).

Optimistic I think, he was out on loan last season in championship and then league one and only got 5 goals.

No way will Bogle get 20 goals in the championship ever. At championship level he managed 1 in15 for Birmingham on loan and 3 in 12 for Wigan. One of those players who in really good at league two level ok at league one level and not very good at championship level. Hope he proves me wrong but nothing he has done so far suggests he will be a prolific scorer in the championship.

From the little I saw of Bogle - I thought he looked better than Ken both in terms of pace, power and speed - mind you - it was so long ago I'd almost forgotten what he looked like.

Seems like all players are giving Neil something to think about - Tomlin, Madine, Bogle, Reid , plus new ones - do we actually need any new players ?

This must be another summer season wind up, if we have to rely on Bogle this coming season we'll be in serious trouble.

One good free kick doesn't make up for 2 years of him not doing anything same with Madine. Im sick of these strikers, get them all out and lets get some strikers in who are genuine quality and can score goals at championship level not just against teams like Bodmin and Tavistock and some semi-pro team in the USA.

Oh Christ, one free kick and suddenly we have a 20 goal striker on our books !!! :x

What price are bookies giving for him to hit Twenty?

I checked on oddschecker and the bookies are not even offering odds on Bogle being the top scorer even though the odds go down to 250-1. You can get 100-1 on Madine. The favourite Cardiff player to be top scorer is Reid at 40-1 and the bookies don't reckon Zohore's chances have improved much as he is still 33-1.

I got Reid at 33/1 and zohore at 60/1. I won’t be cheering on zohore quite so much now though!!!

His attitude has always been the issue, including when he went out on loan.

When we signed him I thought he'd do well in the Championship but it hasn't happened yet.

But if he has sorted out his attitude and works hard, then he could be an asset for us.

Doesn't mean we don't need to bring a striker in though.

Only chance of bogle scoring 20 goals is if we are given 20 penalties and he takes them even then he would probably miss 10
come on, cardiff need a bit of quality upfront we seem to be with happy with anybody who shows more interest upfront than zohore .

He looked promising when played at Bristol but got sent off never recovered after that for us. But question is can we afford to take chance on him and madine getting the goals this season as January not the time to try find a striker?

He has always said they have to be better than what we have..... With Ken gone that shouldn't be to hard now.

No but will he go with what ges got that's the problem so saving money? That's ok if get the quality in defence and midfield to make us more solid allowing reid/Murphy more scope to get forward with madine that could work?

he made 1 mistake at Bristol city and got punished I would give him a chance as he is not lazy like Ken was.. he lost his head in a tackle but all players make a mistake lets see what he got

The boy can finish , that’s for sure .
I would give him a chance but we do need another striker, a midfielder and a winger .
3 quality top championship players and we are goo to go .

The incident at Bristol City was not the issue The issue was on a number of occasions he did not turn up for training Also he faked illness and club sent someone to his house and he was not in when he claimed he was ill at home

The problem is Bogle Ward and Madine are by championship standards all a bit journeymanish. They would be fine for a Rotherham Wigan or Bolton but nor for a club going for automatic promotion. I honestly could not say which of them is best and I don't think Neil Warnock could either either. Which of them would play best up front with Reid,I don't know and I don't think Warnock does either. I suspect if no one else comes in we will finish in the playoffs. If we sign someone like Assombalonga and the Seneglese French midfielder we can probably get automatic promotion.

I can’t see why Bogle and Reid wouldn’t work, Bogle possesses all the attributes of a striker that we need, he just needs a run of games with Reid to build a solid partnership. I think Bogle could be coming into his prime now last season on loan may have taught him a lot ?
