Middlesbrough defender Aden Flint is en route to Championship rivals Cardiff City to complete a transfer worth up to £6m.
The strapping stopper is expected in South Wales to fine tune personal terms on the deal and take a medical today.
The clubs agreed a switch that is reported as an initial £4m price-tag but Gazette Live understand with clauses that could see the fee rise to £6m.
Central defender Flint only arrived at Boro last summer from Bristol City for an initial £5m.
Neil Warnock is looking to revamp his defence after relegation from the Premier League and sees Flint’s imposing physical presence and aerial prowess as a key building block.

Cardiff City weighing up bid for Middlesbrough defender Aden Flint - reports
18 July 2019
Daily Mirror
Cardiff City are reportedly considering a move for Middlesbrough centre-back Aden Flint.
According to The Mirror , Neil Warnock is keen on making a move for the 30-year-old, who only arrived at the Riverside last year from Bristol City in a £7million move.
At 6ft 6in, he would certainly bring some added height to Cardiff's defence, with boss Neil Warnock keen to revamp his squad ahead of the new season.
Flint made 39 appearances for Boro last season, and could be on his way out following the departure of boss Tony Pulis.
A move for Flint would certainly given Warnock plenty of defensive options, particularly in light of the the arrival of Curtis Nelson.
The former Oxford skipper was implemented as a defensive midfielder in the win over San Antonio at the weekend, but is nevertheless likely to have been brought in to provide extra competition at the back, with Sean Morrison, Sol Bamba and Bruno Manga all set to jostle for places.
Flint is likely to be well known to many Cardiff fans after netting a Severnside derby winner back in November 2017, in a game where he played alongside Bobby Reid.
If reports in the national press are to be believed, they could now be team-mates once again.

Not a fan Paul? I’d imagine he’s probably on half the wages.
Makes sense to me with manga being in the last year of his contract.

Flint is a very good Championship defender. I wouldn't claim he is better than Manga, as I feel Manga is a Premier league defender, but losing him on a free transfer and having to replace him without receiving a penny would be real shocking business.

Not seen a lot of Flint but he is the type Warnock likes big and strong in the air.
I think it's just a case of knowing Manga wanted to return home and unlikely to sign a new deal

Morrison and flint from set pieces could provide alot of goals
Flint is taller than morrison

I believe so I think warnock will tell him to get in positions morrison does, he could be a handful in the box with the ball in the air
Im sure he scored against us at Ashton Gate few years ago

Also down to the bare bones at C.H. with Bamba out until October.
Manga, Morrison and Nelson our only C.H. for up to two months , also allows us to not rush Bamba back.
Can see Connolly moving on quite quickly now.

1 year younger, twice the price and I bet he earns a pretty penny at Boro.
Is he better than manga? Doubtful.

I know it doesn't paint a full picture but Boro finished 2nd in the clean sheets table last season. Flint played 39 league games for them. He couldn't have been that bad?

Middlesbrough's Aden Flint set for Cardiff City medical
Middlesbrough's Aden Flint is set for a medical at Cardiff City as manager Neil Warnock moves quickly to replace outgoing Bruno Manga.
The former Bristol City centre-back is due to become the manager's fifth signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of Will Vaulks, Curtis Nelson, Joe Day and the permanent acquisition of Aaron Bolger.
It is thought he will join the Bluebirds in a deal that could be worth £6m.
Flint, 30, only moved to the Riverside last summer in a £7million deal, and despite making 39 appearances for Boro, it appears that the time has come to move on and Warnock has acted swiftly to bring in the experienced defender.
The 6ft 6in centre-back is well known in these parts, having scored a winner for the Robins against the Bluebirds in a Severnside derby back in 2017.
He will now compete with Sean Morrison, Sol Bamba and Nelson at the centre of the Bluebirds' defence.

It feels underwhelming but so did the signings of Hudson and Morrison and look how they turned out.
An I think we should take Boro fans comments with a pinch of salt. Leeds fans said the same about Bamba he’s done alright.
This must mean we go for a new right back because we can’t rely on Peltier and Jazz to both get through a season.

An absolute beast at the back with Mozza and I for one hope we have a new set piece taker who can cross a decent ball in because between Mozza and Flint we should get some goals, their going to frighten a lot of teams with their aerial ability

30 years old and not exactly the most mobile. It certainly doesn't seem to me that we are building a team to be promoted and good enough to stay up.

Or we can use Cameron Cox

I've made my feelings about Manga clear on here - I am not a fan.
Flint is the type of defender I like, no nonsense, gets stuck in.
I think this could turn out to be good business for us but time will tell.

Your in the minority there. Our best CB last season. If Boro had come in for manga, wanting him +3m for flint I'd have hoped it would have been laughed out. 6m for a player who doesn't improve the area we are supposedly strongest in, no resale value, likely not good enough should we get promoted.
The two deals in connection are awful business. As is selling a striker with promotion experience to a supposed rival

Yup, I'm fully aware I'm in the minority here.
Let's hope Bamba can get himself fit again and we see Bamba and Morrison most weeks.
We are still light in the middle and we also need a striker as you say.
I'm hoping something comes of Austin / Assombalonga but we'll probably end up with Neil Mellor
Thu Jul 18, 2019 11:40 am
We haven't even seen him in a blue shirt yet. Him and Morrison could be immense together for all we know.
Manga wanted to leave, has had his eye on the door for a few seasons so needed to replace him and we have got a replacement.

In our position I think it’s those risks you have to take if we’re serious about going for another promotion push like the club say we are. Don’t get me wrong we’re not loaded by all means but neither are we stripped of cash. Having Bruno with his quality , versatility and invaluable promotion experience would’ve been vital

If you look at his goal scoring records
37 goals for Bristol in 209 games
45 goals for alfreton in 100 games]
that's mental for a defender
