Exclusive: Club open talks to sign prolific Cardiff City striker
By Pete O’Rourke

Cardiff City have opened talks with MK Dons over the sale of Rhys Healey on a permanent transfer, Football Insider understands.

The striker spent the first half of last season on loan at the League One club and impressed during his time at the club by scoring nine goals in 21 appearances.

A Cardiff source has told Football Insider that manager Neil Warnock has given the green light for Healey to move to MK Dons on a full-time deal.

The 24-year-old returned to Cardiff in January and made three substitute appearances in the Premier League as they suffered relegation back to the Championship.

But Healey, who is entering the final year of his contract at Cardiff, is well down the pecking order and faces an uphill battle to establish himself in the team.

There is a growing likelihood his loan of last season at MK Dons will now become permanent if the two clubs can agree the structure of a deal during talks.

Healey joined Cardiff from Connah’s Quay in 2013, but he has spent the majority of his time at the club out on loan, with spells at Colchester United, Dundee, Newport County and Torquay as well as MK Dons.

He has scored prolifically in senior football, with 40 goals from 117 appearances in total.

Confirmed now on MK Dons website and City's. Undisclosed fee....

MK Dons have made Cardiff City striker Rhys Healey their seventh signing of the summer for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old spent the first half of last season on loan at Stadium MK, scoring nine goals in 21 games to help the club win promotion to League One.

He returned to the Bluebirds in January and made three appearances in the Premier League.

"It was a no brainer for me. As soon as this move came around, I was desperate to get it done," said Healey.

Was better than a certain guy called Cornelius in a 3 goals win down the "New Vetch" some time ago albeit for the youngsters!

That’s his level unfortunately for us. Shouldn’t of ever been on the pitch for us last season.

There’s going to be some sad people who act astonished that we’ve sold a striker that has done absolutely f**k all for us apart from score a header against Burton Albion from about 1 yard into an empty goal.
