Elvis Bogle admitted having an offensive weapon and carrying an imitation firearm

The father of Cardiff City striker Omar Bogle armed himself with a fake gun and a baseball bat as he tried to confront suspected thieves after the player's expensive training kit was stolen from his car.

Elvis Bogle carried the weapons after receiving a tip-off about the identity of the culprits but was intercepted by police and arrested, along with an accomplice, the Birmingham Mail report .

Birmingham Crown Court heard how, at 10.25pm on May 4 this year, a police officer on patrol in Handsworth saw Bogle, who was wearing an army-style camouflage coat, and another man.

He saw one of them was carrying a silver-coloured baseball bat and called for back-up. The officer then saw them go to an address in Murdock Road where vulnerable people lived.

After some time, the two men left – but by then other officers had arrived, and they were detained.

When asked what was inside his ‘man bag’, Bogle said it was a gun.

Aliya Rashid, prosecuting, said it was found to be a BB-style gun and was unloaded. Police officers later recovered the baseball bat from a garden a few yards away.

During a police interview, Elvis Bogle said his son, who was on loan at Portsmouth at the time but was visiting his father, had discovered his Range Rover had been broken into, and thousands of pounds of kit stolen from the back of the car.

He told officers a neighbour who had witnessed the theft saw the culprits head to an address on Murdock Road.

Bogle, 60, of Eaton Avenue, West Bromwich, said he took the gun for self-protection and wanted to see if any of the stolen items could be recovered.

Having previously admitted having an offensive weapon and carrying an imitation firearm in a public place, he was handed a 12-month community order and ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work.

Judge Heidi Kubic told Elvis Bogle: “You were seeking to return property that had been stolen from your son. Happily, these weapons were not produced or brandished, or used to threaten anybody else, and you were quickly apprehended.”

She said she had also taken into account that he was the carer for his own elderly father.

Jonathan Barker, defending, said the defendant’s son had stayed with him overnight, and that he had to return to his club to play a game on the Saturday.

“Bogle, with another, sought to recover the items from a house where they believed those responsible resided,” he said. “He acknowledges he ought to have called the police and not to have taken matters into his own hands.”

Don't be judgemental. Bit more of that and less fannying about and people wouldn't steal it.

Yes sorry he's a great role model for his Son who is a professional footballer and in the public eye!

Look Son if ever you leave you free kit in your car and someone steals it, what you should do is, ask around for who might have stolen it and then arm yourself with a baseball bat and a fake gun, so they think you are going to kill them when you find them. OK you may have to go to court and have a criminal record, and maybe it will affect your career, but it's much better than fannying about, and reporting it to the police, and going to your club and asking for replacement free kit!

Thanks Dad that sounds like great advice :laughing6:

Some funny replies here but on a serious note is it worth dressing up as Rambo for a piece of football kit?
