SKY SPORTS BREAKING: SOL BAMBA NEW TWO YEAR CONTRACT FROM 2020

Sky Sports:

12/07/19

Cardiff have agreed terms in principle with captain Sol Bamba over a new contract, Sky Sports News understands.

The 34-year-old Ivory Coast international has entered the final 12 months of his current deal.

But the Bluebirds have been keen to reward him for his performances in the Premier League last season and could tie him down for at least another two years.

His representative Meissa N’Diaye has held positive talks with Cardiff officials while the player has been recovering from a serious knee injury.

Bamba tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Wolves in March and missed the rest of the season after surgery.

The player will not travel with the squad for their pre-season tour to North America and may not return to full fitness until October.

But manager Neil Warnock recently said: “He's doing so well it might not be that long, but I wouldn't expect him back too early."

Great news and deserved. I'm sure Big Sol will be at the club in some capacity for a few years yet :bluebird:

Great news, what an ispiration he is. Such a great guy and his football has improved massively under Warnock.

His enthusiasm, grit and determination must be infectious throughout the squad. :bluebird:

I suppose the proviso is a full recovery from this injury but good news anyway/

I don't see the need to give a 34 year old a new 2 year deal to be honest.

I agree, its effectively a 3 year contract from now and he's already showing significant signs of wear and tear / age. We'll still be paying when he's 37. Nice gesture for his service but I'm not sure its financially prudent or the best use of our limited resources.

The club, not known for splashing the cash unnecessarily, must be confident in what they are doing with Sol and I wonder if there is one eye on the future with him staying on at the club in some other capacity when his playing days are finished?

It would be easy to simply transfer his 'role' as and when appropriate

Maybe Sol will be learning from NW and stepping into his shoes next season.

I agree Chris and this is good news as far as I’m concerned.
There’s more to offering a player a new contract than expecting him to play 50 games a season.

That's what people often miss in the headlines, Paul

From what I've seen/heard about Sol Bamba, his intelligence and passion cannot be questioned. I have been massively impressed and see a future for him with the right guidance/handling :thumbright:

Well worth a contract and surely destined for a management role at the club.

Good to have him at the club - will bring experience to others and a voice at the club .
