Why Cardiff won't be spending big this summer
By Tom Coleman (Media Wales)
Monday 8th July 2019
Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman has dismissed suggestions that parachute payments could hand the Bluebirds a financial advantage over their Championship rivals following relegation from the Premier League.
Dalman was speaking at the inaugural FT Business of Football Summit in London earlier in the summer, an event aimed at focusing on the opportunities and challenges currency being faced across the industry.
Samantha Gordon, chief financial officer of Nottingham Forest was also in attendance, along with Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani, who claimed that the current financial landscape meant the Elland Road outfit could not compete with clubs coming down from the Premier League.
He said: “I cannot compete with clubs coming from the Premier League with a £100m budget who can come to our place and steal our players easily.”
However, Dalman, who’s believed to still be keen on taking over newly-promoted Championship side Charlton Athletic , has dismissed any suggestion that Cardiff will be able to financially outmuscle their rivals this summer.

Will we ever spend big?
Probably now is a better chance than any other year to do so imo.

We haven’t got that sort of owner.

So same as last year, and the year before and the one before that

Good, I don't think we need to, a tweak here and there.

Also I'm sure that was a miss quote. It was actually leeds chairman who said that.

We spent last summer, we were supposed to equip for
A premier league run. We haven’t lost anyone except two midfielders who were on loan. We’ve replaced one, need another. Not bothered about “spending big” as much as I am about spending wisely. We need 3 more players imo
A striker, another CM and a RB and we will challenge.

Keeping the squad is a sign of intent in my eyes . Plus he is hardly going to say we got lots of cash to spend .

This is a much stronger squad than when we got automatic bar maybe one CM short.
The club have a policy and are sticking to it, lucky for us our manager is a master at it. I don't think we need to "spend big" at all. It upsets the balance. We have some thing here not many of the top teams have.

No, we got an owner who wrote off £68M last year of his own money and continues to run the club superbly imo

decent owner, "superb" debatable. the owner has put our club and fans through the mill!!! and back. for some of us hell and back. Tan has had a taste of top flight football now and needs to dig deep ready for the season after next when we go baxk up, there was only a couple of successes last season, our amazing fans, our team togetherness, and our manager. Tan needs to step up to the mark now and spend some. If he doesn't. I wouldn't be surprised.

And don't forget. He called it!!! "this club should be as big as Barcelona" QUOTE.

I think we’re at least two short maybe three.

Parachute payments are down to perspective. On paper they are eye watering amounts but in the real world they are soon ate up by player contracts and other commitments.

Yeah I agree 2/3 players would be great. But I'm just talking in comparison to last time in the championship. We're in a much better place.

I was hoping we get in a quality striker such as sala rather than hoping ken comes good, and to boost the season ticket sales just because we are not in the prem does'nt mean we should' nt spend, i fear, if we are only going stick with zohore and patters upfront.
