Charlie Austin hasn't been included in Southampton's pre-season trip to Austria, so it looks like he's off.
Would be a statement signing IF we could pull it off....although I doubt we will.

A bit too late, passed his best in decline, we need the young equivalent !!!

He just hasn't had games because they have so many strikers. Might still be a player in there. If we have some guarantees in his contract (e.g. 1 year contract, release clause if we don't go up, etc.) then there's minimal risk

Arent they looking for around 8 - 10m for him, you cant give a player with a huge transfer fee a 1 year deal.

He scores goals on a consistent basis,go get him.

I'm not sure what they're looking for, but it's just an example. If you're paying a fee like that then you'd have to add a clause for if we don't go up. Such as his release clause being the price we paid for him, just to cover any losses.

He's been signing for the last 5 transfer windows

Wouldn't mind a trio of signings along with Matty Phillips and Dirk Kuyt to be fair

I’d have no issue at all if we gambled 10m on Austin.

Only 2 goals last year and 16 in 4 years Not for me

Mainly not in the squad or coming off of the bench mind. I'd take him in the Championship. Different beast.

He's a target for Sheffield United (according to SSN).

The bloke can hardly move due to knee injuries
Due to an injury to Danny Ings Southampton were relying on a kid in Obafami and Shane 'can't score' Long as strikers - when we beat them at their place the Obafami kid was injured and they played Long on his own up front as they didn't have any other strikers - Austin got 15 minutes at the end and was utterly useless and slow.
They have been trying to offload him for a while - £10m !!!!!! he's got 12 months left on a contract and they don't want him
They are having a laugh - I'm sure they'll release him soon enough as his contract is up next year. He will be a very expensive substitute for somebody I've no doubt but certainly not us!
Bloody good player a few years ago before injuries

Said that about Lambert mind.

I think if we sign a striker it'll be someone fit and although were not shopping in Harrods were not at Home Bargins either.

Really? Considering some have quoted 15m is our budget for the season, would be a big risk imho.

We have scorers already, proven championship. A bit spent on midfield for 2 and we're good to go. Tomlin if ready, is like a new signing.

We’ve been without a decent striker for too many years now.
I think he’d rip the championship apart.
10mill on him and a few decent loans.

I saw top- gear last night and they featured an Austin Allegro and it was slow and steady, for £10m I would expect something a little more sporty from an Austin

Possibly worth a loan enquiry? Nothing ventured, nothing gained. It goes without saying that any possible result would need a few conditions attached.
Mon Jul 08, 2019 8:55 pm
Injury prone, not worth the risk of any considerable fee
Mon Jul 08, 2019 9:15 pm
2/3 seasons ago this would have been a great signing. He Would probably still score goals in the championship but he’s passed his best and is constantly injured so would be a massive gamble. If we are going to be splashing that sort of money I’d be much prefer to get someone younger in and not someone coming to the end of their career.
