Cardiff City's ex-Man Utd trialist revealed and the famous name that featured in Taff's Well triumph

Saturday 6th July 2019

Cardiff City made light work of their opening pre-season fixture as they beat Taff's Well 5-1 at Rhiw'r Ddar.

Jacob Evans, Laurence Wooton, Dan Griffiths, Ntazana Mayembe and Connor Davies all got on the scoresheet for the Bluebirds, with Richard French scoring the only goal for the hosts.

Neil Warnock named a youthful looking side that also featured new recruits Joe Day and Curtis Nelson who both got 60 minutes under their belts on their Bluebirds debuts.

But there were some other notable names to feature for the visitors too.

Warnock made a number of changes at the interval as well as during the course of the second period.

One of those young guns introduced at the break was the manager's son William.

The 18-year-old joined the Bluebirds from his father's former club Plymouth Argyle last summer and made four competitive appearances for Cardiff's Under-18 side during the 2018/19 season, scoring one goal.

He slotted in at right-back against the Wellmen and didn't look out of place, embarking on a few marauding runs while he was solid defensively too.

And there was another intriguing name in the line-up for the second half.

Listed as "Trialist" by the club, the youngster wearing the No. 21 jersey has been revealed to be former Manchester United man Tom Sang.

The Liverpool-born 20-year-old can operate in a variety of positions, including full-back, centre-back and midfield. He was deployed in the latter position for the Bluebirds at Rhiw'r Ddar and showed some promising glimpses with his attacking forays.

Sang - who started his career at Bolton - trained with United's first team ahead of their Champions League group fixture against Juventus under Jose Mourinho in October and was also a regular for the club's Under-23 side in the 2017/18 campaign before injuries struck.

He spent the latter half of the 2018/19 season on loan with AFC Fylde but was released by the Red Devils earlier this summer.

Sterner tests await Warnock's troops ahead of their Championship opener against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Saturday, August 3.

But - particularly when you add in the money raised for local charity Ty Hafan - the outing against the Wellmen was yet another success.

Tom Sang is a decent player. Played OK for AFC Fylde but didn't hit the ground running like United hoped. Warnock player, can play across the defensive line as well as a holding midfielder. Hard-working and very athletic.
