I prefer it when we don't spend huge sums as they seem to turn out best

Rotherham fans think they are getting 3m but I'm not so sure. All in all excellent business and it's not even july yet.

Very pleased so far, still need a top quality midfielder and more importantly not sell anyone
Fri Jun 28, 2019 9:58 am
I have a feeling Nelson might turn out to be a gem

Not selling anyone for me will be the key to our success this season

As I said elsewhere , I'm concerned that we seem to be going for the bargain basement so far. Three good potential players but no guarantees with any of them.
I'm worried about what Sir Neil said about the squad changing a lot shortly , especially with rumours of Josh Murphy and Etheridge going. Why are we buying central defenders ? We've got Nelson and according to reports today we're going after another one - I'd have thought that's one department where we've got things right and I really hope we're not going to try and cash in on Sol or Morrison.
I hope we're not going to settle down in mid table championship football again.

Cash in on Sol ? At 34 and coming back from an ACL op you'd be lucky to get a Clarkes pie for him right now so I think you're safe on that one
Vaulkes is probably the only first teamer we've signed so far but Warnock has been pretty clear that there's more to come.
Anther defensive midfielder and a serious goalscorer and I think we'll pretty happy with that.
Of course, there may be people moving on but as long as we replace them with similar quality that's fine. I do wonder whether signing Day means that either Etheridge or Smithies are moving on ? Again, as long as we get a good fee then I'm OK with that.

You never know in football mid table could be the outcome, but there is no way Warnock would have stayed on if that was the limit of the clubs ambition

I hope not, but although I'm Sir Neil's biggest fan, I'm a bit worried that he might be happier being the perpetual underdog and producing slightly better results than you could expect rather than sweeping the board.

I think it's great business, to be honest I was dissapointed we didn't do more business like this last season.
We have strengthened the squad. I'm really pleased with Vaulks who I got a good feeling about.
I haven't seen a lot of Nelson but Warnock knows what he likes in a CB and at a good age and mixture and on a free it seems a no brainer.
Saving the budget for key areas.
I would still sell Etheridge if a decent offer came in as I think we still need to be cautious in not overspending and I think selling him can give us funds to improve other areas. I remember saying the same about Marshall and everyone disagreed and in the end we sold him for pennies.

If the right striker comes up we should buy him.
He’s already checked to see if the money is there, if not why ask? Striker should be one who can score in this league and be as good in the PL. It’s obvious the ones we have cannot in the PL and there are plenty about but we need to spend
I’m happy with the 3 in, Murphy going as he probably wants to play next season so Day a good free!
He said he wants 3 in but as I’ve already said he will top that up by another 2 at least possibly loans?
As Annis pointed out the best thing is that we lose no one and only get rid of the ones we don’t want. ie Bogle, Healy, Connolly, Tomlin and possibly Madine. I’d keep Damour to fill up the midfield.

If we hang on to Reid and Murphy and sign another decent midfielder I think we will have a stronger team on paper then the last side that got promoted. If Warnock can get them playing with the same spirit as that team we should be looking at automatic promotion. No one as good as Wolves were that season and the only team as good as Fulham we're might be Fulham.

Looks like we are shopping in Poundland again, not impressed with the new players brought in, but time will tell.
Fri Jun 28, 2019 12:27 pm
Sometimes you wonder about his rational for signings? Hes now saying he's undecided whether to go big on striker and very reluctant to let ken go because he knows what he can produce? Ect ect on other players no wonder we missed targets last season bu time gets it sorted pkayers gone elsewhere....
Fri Jun 28, 2019 12:28 pm
Only time will tell, 3 players who had a good season during 18/19 which has paid off with them signing for us, good bit of business at the end of the day

Along with most other people Vaulks looks like a good addition to the squad, I don't know much about the lad from Oxford, so not sure on that. getting the lad Day from Newport suggests to me that either they have a big offer for Etheridge or Smithies is going out on loan, so a good insurance policy for keeper.
The fact that we have only spent small potatoes suggests that the big one is yet to come. I do believe that Neil's war-chest is around £20M, and given the fact that maybe we have a "new signing from within" a fit and firing Tomlin could be something no-one anticipated leaves me to think that a top striker signing (for Championship) is on the cards alongside another midfielder.
But the key to all this is not to lose any of our key outfield players.
Then I think we have the tools to take a top two place

One solid champ player in vital position for a good price and two prospects on a free that will supplement the squad. Pretty happy with that early on.
Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:24 pm
Vaults will play a lot and is a decent signing at £2m (reported), although he was with a Rotherham team that got relegated last season, so hardly a top Championship player.
The other two are a third choice goalkeeper and a 4th choice centre back, so I think are pretty irrelevant except we may see them in cup games.

The type of signings that we need.
Not washed up donkeys looking for there last pay day.

Don't forget we signed David Marshall from a relegated Nowrich. He turned out ok.

Agree with this but we still need two players to go straight into the first team imo.
Still need a bit more quality.

Really happy with business so far. Early business. Over a month to go of the window. Plenty of time to wheel and deal on some bigger transfers.

this. What warnock does best, finds players from the lower leagues and turns them into gems, a bit of real passing quality in centre mid next please and we can feel pretty confident of play offs at least, then maybe a winger and striker plus a superfit tomlin its game on and bring on the jacks
(if you cant feel confident in pre season whats the point

)
Fri Jun 28, 2019 9:59 pm
Pleased with all 3 to this point .

Lots bang on about a striker
But unless madine goes unlikely imo
We have Bogle, madine, ward and zohore plus Reid who scored 30 goals last championship campaign personally if tomlin is fit and ready I’d chance Reid up top with tomlin in behind or zohore up top with Reid I’m behind Reid for me should be first name on the team sheet this season whether that’s at AM or ST
Remember both times we’ve gone up nobody has scored over 10 goals goals need to come from all over not just strikers
I’m more concerned about centre midfield options than up front to be honest rather the money be used securing two quality centre midfielders

Totally agree but being a bit greedy two more midfielders and a quality striker and I think we will have a brilliant season ahead

100% agree about Reid but to get the best out of him in a Warnock team I think he has to play as a number 10 running at goal rather than upfront with his back to goal.
Id be amazed if Bogle didn't go, probably Medine if he can and Ward and Zohore get a few injuries.
I think we will see a striker come in for a decent fee and maybe another who can also play wide.
