Warnock ,this is the best championship team he's managed

Warnock: "I think this is probably the best Championship team I’ve ever managed."

Following Thursday’s busy afternoon, Neil Warnock shared his thoughts on City’s most recent signings…

Cardiff City made a trio of player signings on Thursday, bringing Will Vaulks, Joe Day and Curtis Nelson into the fold.

“We’ve been working hard in the background for the last few weeks really," began the Gaffer. "There’s been a lot of speculation around and I think that all three players have got something to prove.

“I’m really pleased and think that they’ll fit in well having met them. I’ve been after Will Vaulks for a few weeks now, and from the first meeting that I had with him I know that he was just our cup of tea, really.

“The squad will be changing over the next few weeks and I wanted to get these three in quickly. Curtis Nelson is a lad that I’ve liked since he was at Plymouth Argyle many years ago when I watched him – I always felt he could go right to the very top.

“I’m really pleased with this week’s business and I’m looking forward to getting back into it now."

Not the type to say that sort of thing unless he's confident we can smash it this season.

On paper it’s better than the team that went up 2 years ago, but you don’t win anything on paper!!

Personally, I think we need another top quality midfielder and I would like Madine to stay as plan B

I do agree though this is a strong squad

I agree, for me, we still need some quality added to the team. I also think regarding Madine, unless there’s a decent offer Warnock will put him in the first team squad.
Hopefully, a fit and motivated Tomlin can provide some quality but I’ll hold my breath on that one.

Hmm and he's managed some very good promotion winning teams, the futures looking bright :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Probably a stupid question, but do we have a limited number in a championship squad or can we pick from anyone
on our books ?

That's some statement considering the team he had at QPR when he had players like Paddy Kenny, Adel Taarabt, Alejandro Faurlin, Wayne Routledge, Tommy Smith, Jamie Mackie and Heidar Helguson all in their prime. Still I agree I think this is probably the best Championship squad he's had.

I get a bit twitchy hearing the 'best squad in the Championship' claim. I remember that being put about in 2014 when the likes of Federico Macheda were so good we were going to walk back into the PL that season especially as we had one of Europe's best up and coming managers :?

That said this squad does look more functional and NW is miles better than OGS.

That's a teeny weeny bit different to what he actually said Tony.Claiming this is the best squad he's ever managed in the championship as opposed to being "THE" best squad in the championship is not the same thing but doubtless he will be misquoted many times over the season especially if we are not smashing it by xmas.

We may have a strong squad but it means little in the championship. You look at last season while the red hot fav fell away the likes of Norwich and Sheffield United stormed away.

This is very true but I rarely believe what Warnock says in these type of interviews.
He’s a master of words and mind games and often says what he wants people to hear and not necessarily what he really believes.

Fair enough it wasn't word for word. But as we finished second last time we were in the Championship having a better squad should make us the best.

I should have expanded the point. Last time under OGS when our squad was described as the 'best in the championship' I got sucked into that thinking and really thought we would be battling for a top two slot. We know what happened and the squad was hopelessly out of it's depth. That said the most important person at a football club is the manager and in NW we certainly do have the best.

You should work for a newspaper mate!!!

Our swuad last time was barely in the top 4 on paper. Warnock knows that. Your logic is strange.
