THE KENNETH ZOHORE DILEMMA

Friday 14th June 2019

Cardiff set the template for the new season in their last game at Old Trafford, when Warnock picked a front four of Kenneth Zohore, Bobby Reid, Josh Murphy and Mendez-Laing.

It was the quartet many fans had been crying out for, a fearsome foursome full of pace, power, panache, direct running, flair and goal threat.

Finally they were teamed together and tore Manchester United's defence apart on the break. It was the best performance we saw from Cardiff's forwards the whole year.

If those four could repeat that, they would rip up the Championship and spearhead the promotion charge.

But, unfortunately, there is a rider. Cardiff were already down when they went to Old Trafford, the pressure was off and Warnock could go for it without any undue worries.

Given he does tend to err on the side of caution it remains to be seen whether he will go for the bold formation again, particularly given Zohore's well documented inconsistencies.

Zohore at his best can be amongst the top strikers in the Championship. But will Warnock wait for that Zohore best, or will he decide to cash in and sign another centre-forward?

Cardiff know they won't get any more the kind of £15m fee Brighton once offered for Zohore.

But he might court £5m interest from abroad, money Warnock could reinvest in a striker he feels might offer more week in, week out guarantees.

Gary Madine and Omar Bogle would also need to be moved on to balance numbers.

A front four we 100% should have played at Fulham and I believe we'd still be in the premier league

It's a no brainer. He stays.

His value is hardly at its highest and he is in my opinion the best striker we have and he has shown he can lead the line the championship.

No doubt Warnock will bring in another striker so he maybe down to second choice but that's for him to make a case to be first choice.

Warnock has already brought in a number of strikers and none have been any better imo.

I think it would be madness to sell, what would we get 1m? Doesn't even buy you a Danny Ward.

That front 4 would definitely cause some damage in the championship!

We all know what needs to happen but as we know nw likes to play one up front with help from either wing when those players are not defending that is, will just have to see what nw plans when season starts:old:

I'd sell Zahore.

Isn't he out of contract next summer?

I would look to move him on personally, for everyone's benefit including the player, sometimes you need a fresh start and a parting of the ways.

In this market you could pick up £3-5 Million for him I think, I mean the likes of Norwich or Sheffield Utd would take a punt at the price surely?

The Club will know the ins and outs if a contract extenion is not looking favourable then sell sell sell IMO.

Zahore is useless, how many chances do we keep giving him?? If we are serious about trying to go straight back up then we need to spend real money on a top striker.

I think we would see a much better goal/assist return if he had support, instead of playing up top on his own. I would much prefer that city go all out and bring in a quality striker though.

I think the lack of chances for all our strikers has been the problem.

Agree about getting a top striker if we can but for me Zohore is the best of the rest we have.

I have probably been his biggest critic on here for a long time now. I think the PL was beyond his capabilities, but he has proved that he can score goals at Championship level. I am hoping he will prove his doubters, including me, wrong this season, because at the moment, unless we sign a quality striker, he may be the best we have at the club right now.

We need to go and get Maupay

If we had him up front with Murphy , Reid and Mendez just behind our attack will RIP the championship defences apart

If we are playing 4231 we need a degree of physicality up top to pin the two centre halfs to allow the wingers a bit of space. Assuming Madine goes and thats not a certainty we are left with a straight fight between Kenny and Pats as starters with Ward as third string.

But, the contract situation is a bit of a bind. Do we stick or twist ? Do you entice him with a two year extension or allow him to see out his contract and let him leave for free. I believe he is our best striker but needs to be 100% fit and that takes games and he never seems to be able to string a load together.

We also need a passer who can drop it in the channel between the centre half and right back

For me we need a top striker and id keep Zohore as back up who's still the best of the rest imo, and we've seen he's capable at championship level and on his day is unplayable (just needs more of those days)
