There’s nothing more infuriating than taking a day off or staying especially for a delivery. You track it online and see the van is close. Then they pull-up outside your house and then just drive off. You later receive a notice saying unable to locate the property. I ordered something 2 weeks ago. The van has been to my property 3 times and just driven off. It clearly states the number of my propertyon the wall outside and there’s ample parking spaces. To me it basically looked like the driver wanted to register that they had been here but not bother getting out of the van. I complained to the company where I ordered the things from because over a week and a half later I still hadn’t received my items. Today I decided to see what the driver would do..........I watched from the winDow. The driver got out of the van....appeared to scan my item. I went around to the front door but to my amazement he wasn’t there. I then went back to my wi Dow and saw him turning in the road and just drove off!
Why do drivers do this? Are they under big pressure to deliver a huge amount of items so they skip deliveries?
Is it a genuine mistake? Lazy ness? Or something else?

They get embarrassed delivering BDSM sex toys so tend to drive off.

Probably so they can try and charge you for a specific day and time.
Nothing else would make sense. In my experience DPD are the best out there, they delivered my Wales tickets for the Euros and had them loads where they will deliver to a shop etc.
Royal Mail, UPD and Yodel all jokers in my experience.

Is this with Hermes or Yodel by any chance?

With some companies you get a very narrow delivery slot on their system, usually less than 10 minutes. If you are late for that slot, they may not give you a delivery round the next day. If the driver thought that he might be late for his next delivery then he registers himself as having attended your address but puts on his system that you weren’t in so that he doesn’t waste time waiting for you to answer the door and shoots off to his next drop.
The drivers are essentially self employed and may not be given any work to cover their expenses if they are late, even by a minute or 2. It’s a crap arrangement which benefits no one except the delivery companies.

DPD are really good and they get paid per delivery so it's not in their interest to not make the drop off, maybe some of the shit ones are?
Amazon seem to mostly use their own drivers and they have been pretty good, and leaving with a neighbour if out!

African guy, love to say Somalian but someone would probably jump on me assuming, he even shook my hand, I hope CcfcJosh don't read this, his vision of me as a right wing nazi skinhead will be blown away lol.

Now-a-days all self employed couriers get paid per parcel (DPD, Yodel, Hermes, Amazon etc) the only drivers who don’t are the employed drivers (DPD and Yodel).
Active tracking is normally DPD and Yodel, UPS use various methods and Hermes tracking is useless, pinpoints it at depots, out for delivery (emailed or text time slot) and a email or text once it’s delivered.
My guess is the OP’s delivery came with Yodel or DPD.
Pulling up outside the property and waiting is down to the parcel scanner unlocking the customer details so the driver can access for delivery/carry forward.
