VIEW FROM SPAIN: GARETH BALE

07th June 2019

More now from Spanish journalist Alvaro Montero who has provided this update on Gareth Bale future at Real Madrid…

“The truth is that Zinedine Zidane doesn’t count on him. He wants him to leave. But the problem in the last weeks, when you ask Real Madrid people they realise, and they recognise that here haven’t been offers.

“We have to remember that two years ago there were some offers. Jose Mourinho wanted him to play at Manchester United. Everybody knows that they talked in the United States during the International Champions Challenge Cup, but right now today there are no offers in the Bernabeu stadium for Gareth Bale.

“So, it will be a huge problem if he starts pre-season with Real Madrid in Montreal in Canada and Gareth Bale continues on Real Madrid’s staff.”

bit harsh...without offers there is little he can do other than play the hand he has been dealt , which means sit tight and tell the world he is happy in Madrid { I doubt he is }. at this point in time its down to Madrid to put it out there that they will sell cheaper than expected to get interest...but that can change, Zidane might not last long .

My point was that all the stuff that’s been coming out from him for ages now is that he’s not willing to take a reduction in wages to move.
If he did and Madrid would be willing to sell/loan at a reduced price which has been mentioned then I think there would be plenty of offers.
The ‘stupid’ remark, in my opinion, applies if he’s willing to sit and play golf for the next two years with no football instead of taking a wage cut.

If we all believe these reports are true that is!

to me by publicly taking the stance he is { happy to sit it out } it puts all the pressure on Madrid to sell cheaper and probably give him a sweetener to leave { he isn't going to get another contract at that level I don't think ? }..
its not the best situation to be in for player or club but i believe its down to RM to take a big financial hit on this { might teach them a lesson but doubt it }

Yeah there’s no doubt they’ll have to take a huge hit but even so I don’t think anybody will pay Bale his current salary without him shifting on it.
Will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

I agree..but think it would be foolish for him to be saying it until someone starts showing interest..?
think its eventually going to be a bit like when Emyr Huws went out on loan but on a bigger scale ...when Ipswich were prepared to only pay 7k a week, we were only prepared to subsidise the loan by the same amount so he took a hit for the remainder to play football. not that he has played much..

If they are desperate to get rid of him then maybe they should let him go on a free transfer, that would start a stampede for his signature

NAIL ON HEAD.....the lower the transfer fee the more affordable his wages become....and I think it is down to RM to be moving not GB.

Gareth Bale has never said he wouldn't take a cut in wages.

He has a contract signed with Madrid and he is honouring it and he fully expects Madrid to do the same.

They want him to go then pay up his contract in full.

I like the part ZZ can't count on him!! There's a couple of bloody big trophies on the sideboard down to Bale.
But if he wants football ALL parties are going to have to give a bit here imo.

Of course, I know all that but my point was that in my opinion he should take a pay cut to actually play somewhere else for the last couple of years at his peak rather than sit tight, pick up his money and never play.

If they don’t sell him by whatever means then he has the right to train, play golf, pick up his money and never play thus honouring his contract.
I know what I’d rather do.

I doubt very much he is going to spend years not playing , quite simply there is way to much money to lose from RMs view point..at the moment its brinkmanship and I think Bale holds all the aces...

Yeah I think that’s an unlikely outcome as well and would be a hell of a waste.
Bale certainly does hold all the aces especially with an estimated weekly wage of up £6000,000!!!

Have to agree,he's got 3 years left on his contract ,and in that time he is due £41m,why should he give that up? It's not a good situation at all,to let him go on a free surely would entail the buying out of his contract 1st? Hope it all gets sorted,as a wales fan,it's not good for him to be rotting in the reserves (or playing golf) but if Madrid want him out, then they should pay up. :old: :bluebird:

I agree with you that it would be a heck of a waste, mate

If there's a fault, then it lays at Real Madrid's door, as they are the ones who thought Gareth was of such value to them at point of contract and they weren't press ganged into making him an offer of such magnitude and length

Sadly, not untypical of the Real Madrid 'we'll do what we want' attitude and under such circumstances, Gareth is well within his rights to play the opposing game in order to secure the best 'release' deal for himself

Like you, I don't believe it will remain unresolved for too long but the pressure to resolve is firmly in Los Blancos court and not in Gareth Bale's

I admit i don't watch any Spanish football, but based upon his Wales performances he seems on the downgrade. Its Madrids fault they gave him such a long lucrative contract.

IMO they need to sell him and agree to make up any loss in annual salary for Bale in a one off golden handshake. Although I can't see them getting much more than 50 mill. He is 30 next month and has a long injury history.

Thought he looked off the pace today, not sure if it was the position he was playing or if it was lack of game time though.

Once his pace goes I think, unlike Ronaldo, he’ll be finished. Maybe a year or two left at the top if he can get a move and also stay fit.
