VAR

Wed Jun 05, 2019 8:07 pm

When is a penalty not a penalty when it is given to the opposition after you had one given? Portugal given pen but var looked at previous incident a minute earlier and decided that it was a pen to Holland ! :laughing6:
By way extremely dubious at that

Even VAR can't give a penalty to a team playing tomorrow night - Netherlands.
Ronaldo 3-1 Switzerland tonight and correct VAR decision, even though they went the long way around to get there.

Ooops meant Switzerland but shows how much confusion can happen especially if other team scores but its disallowed and pen given first incident 2 minutes earlier? :o

Doesn't matter.

Only thing that matters is the correct decision was made, as was the case tonight.

They are supposed to stop play and wait for var not let play continue!

Looks like they called VAR for the penalty when the ball went dead for the penalty shout, Switzerland questioned the lack of decision at the other end and got rewarded. It’s if the Ref had awarded the penalty to Portugal and allowed the ball to be placed on the spot then they can’t go back on the decision.

In fairness it was a good call by the red and the VAR team, be interesting to see it in action in the Prem

The ref pointed to spot as soon as Portugal player was fouled he gave the penalty! Var was still revuing swiss claim for pen at this time.... :old:

No that is the problem I highlighted this in world cup? Var revues all incidents inside pen area but problem is game us so fast by time they decide the other team can and do score or win pen as we saw tonight ! Don't forget ref needed to look at screen to decide so presume var had same difficulty revuing pen for swiss in 1st place.... just have to get used to this happening in premier league

Play only stops if ball becomes dead so unless the ref gives a pen which in case of swiss he didn't play continued resulting in farce we saw

That is like most decisions a matter of opinion some pundits said yes others no but its var that makes decision! but does that make it right? Guarantee next season var will make decision particularly on handball that lots wont agree as being a pen even you wont agree 100% of time with var :old:

the right decision is always just a matter of opinion. whether its yours . mine a real ref or the bloke watching the TVs...its not technology its opinion..
was tonights penalty universally agreed or was it exactly the same as many pens since the year dot spit where having it given or not given would be correct to some people and not others...

and the advocates of VAR including UEFA are happy to call all the close VAR decisions correct no matter which way given. seems to be a lot of emperors new clothes syndrome going on...

I've always argued that its about opinions or interpretation of what was seen! But my concern is its not the ref who is making the decisions its var officials? Var revue incident if they say it's a pen ref gives pen even if ref is 2yrds away and doesnt give a pen!! Only time ref make a var decision is when he goes to screen to see for himself and he alone decides what to give? Give it couple of years and var will be giving decisions leading upto a goal like a foul ect , it's happened in rugby tmo is looking at knock ons ect well before try is scored didn't do that originally..... :old:
