Etheridge villa offer 8 million

Mon Jun 03, 2019 5:10 pm

WOL reporting we have turned down 8m from villa and an offer nearer to 10m from Fulham!

If we can get 12m I think it would be great business. His value is at his peak and we need other positions.

It's swings and roundabouts with signing.

I don't see Etheridge value getting higher than it does now. We made the mistake with Marshall taking to long to sell him. We have a keeper ready with smithies

Less than 2 years ago he was a free transfer.
If villas opening bid was 8 I'm sure they would go to 12.
Is it ever wise to hang on to players when there is such money on the table, it has to be reinvested though in the team along with the supposedly 15 million VT made available.
Top , top quality midfield players and strikers please.

Being reported that Smithies is in Birmingham with a view to a loan. Strange indeed

It would be odd if Etheridge stays or goes.

And if we go back up I'm sure we would have to spend more on another keeper

Neil Etheridge has undoubtedly been one of our best and most consistent performers over the past 2 seasons he has been with us, I dont think we should sell him.

In my opinion the best clubs should look to keep their best players, in terms of the championship we can and should be looking to be a top team. We know what a quality keeper he is and how many clean sheets and with that points Etheridge can gain for us this coming season, selling one of our best assets would be a mistake in my opinion. We should be looking to go for promotion this season in my eyes, purely because of our manager and the squad he has built over the past 2 years.

We have a very strong spine if we can add some midfielders and depth in certain positions, if we were to sell Etheridge to a team that will be fighting relegation next season, then we would be getting rid of a key part of that spine that we will need because I genuinely believe with a few key additions this league is there for the taking.

I believe keeping him also sends a message out that we arent open for player sales, we can't let players like Etheridge, Reid, Mendez-laing, J Murphy, Ralls and Morrison go, these are the type of players that can get you promoted, we will need them.

Realistically do we even need to sell? Considering we have just come from the premier league with the money that has been made, I dont think there is any reason to unless a player asks to move and refuses to play but the majority of them see like genuine pro's so I can't see it coming to that. Also remember that there is no guarantees that any money received for players will go straight back into the squad.

I see your point but equally if NE has an ‘average’ season his value could / would plummet
A la Ken Zohore re Brighton’s £12M offer last year.
How much would you accept?

Marshall as a replacement and free?

Re: Etheridge villa offer 8 million

A lot of this depends on the player. If he wants to play at a higher level then he'll be gone. He's an good keeper but I think Smithies would be a good replacement and the team would be no weaker in my view.

If I was Etheridge I'd think long and hard about joining Villa, with possible FFP sanctions imposed on them he cpuld find himsepf having a worse season in the premier league tjan what he's just experienced.

Plus it's Birmingham......who wants to live there.

I was told back a couple of weeks ago We have a young keeper 18-19 years old who Andy Dibble rates as the best prospect he has ever worked with and if we don't fast track him into the 1st team squad we will end up losing him.
Don't ask me his name i don't know much about the reserve sides maybe somebody that does may be able to back this story up.

Not even close enough to the amount of money we will be willing to let Etheridge go.
In My Opinion I Think He Is Worth £20 Million, At Least That Is What I Would Let Him Go For.
