CCTV shows the shocking moment a convicted killer knocked a football fan out on Cardiff's St Mary Street.

Robert Chambers hit Newcastle fan Simon Walters with a punch so hard he suffered whiplash.

The attack was entirely unprovoked.

Mr Walters was minding his own business outside The Cottage pub in St Mary Street after the Cardiff versus Newcastle match on August 18 last year.

The moment of the horrifying attack:

In the sickening video, Chambers can be seen pointing at Mr Walters. He then walks up to him and hits him so hard he is knocked unconscious , causing whiplash.

In court this week the victim’s brother described blood “pouring” from his mouth and trying to stop him from choking.

Mr Walters was treated in hospital for injuries including a wound to the back of his head, swollen jaw, and cut elbow.

The court also heard that Chambers, 30, from Craigmuir Road in Splott , was sent to a young offender institution for 30 months when he was 18 after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

Victim Paul Barnes had confronted youths after his car window was smashed by rival gangs fighting in the street in Tremorfa in July, 2006.

A nearby CCTV camera picked up the sound from the attack with a young voice shouting: "Fight him Rob."

Chambers, then a 17-year-old trainee plumber, knocked the devoted father-of-one to the floor with a single punch.

He was heard to shout: "Get up and have some more. Get up you p****. I knocked him clean out."

The court heard Chambers struck business owner Mr Barnes hard to the face and he fell backwards, hitting his head on the kerb. He suffered bleeding on the brain and died 12 days later.

In the case of Mr Walters, Chambers admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm and the judge made a 56-month extended sentence, made up of a 32-month jail term and a 24-month licence period.

The judge also imposed an eight-year Football Banning Order.

Not good this.
Back in the day football lads only fought with like minded football lads, which is how it should be, not going to attack a random guy because he was wearing a football shirt. Very bad and gutless as this Newcastle fan wouldn’t have been expecting this :bluebird:

Have I read this right? The knob head has already killed someone before so goes out years later and punched some random fan again? Obviously .no brain there then. People like that need putting away for good

Already killed one man, nearly kills another and our justice system deems fit that he'll be back on the streets in 2 years.

The punishment should be a lot more severe.

I'm hoping the club bans him for life. He is not what we want.

That was premeditated murder which should have carried a minimum 25 year term before consideration for parole
The courts in this country are so inconsistent these days
52 months sentence and this was his second murdrv
