EDDIE HOWE TO HOLD TALKS WITH ARTER AS TRIO OF CLUBS CHASE MIDFIELDER

Friday 31st May 2019

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter has formally left Cardiff City following the end of his loan spell with the Welsh club.

Cardiff City were relegated from the Premier League, with Arter making 25 appearances.

The 29-year-old Republic of Ireland international’s future is very much in the air with him seemingly unlikely to return to AFC Bournemouth despite still having a contract at Dean Court.

Arter made the move to AFC Bournemouth in 2010 from then Conference South side Woking for £4,000.

Arter has been a mainstay in the Cherries squad under Eddie Howe’s two spells at the club.

He has amassed over 250 appearances in all competitions and has played an undeniable key role in AFC Bournemouth’s rise from the third tier of English football to establishing themselves in the Premier League.

He was the heart of the Cherries midfield as AFC Bournemouth won promotion from League One in 2013 and won the Championship title in 2015.

Arter remained a key player as the Cherries made the step up into the Premier League, but during the 2017/18 season, his on the pitch life took a dip for the first time since he was sent packing for a months loan spell with Carlisle United in March 2011 by former manager Lee Bradbury.

Arter made just 13 Premier League appearances (just one in 2018), totalling 962 minutes in comparison to his 35 appearances and 2,959 minutes the season before.

He made the move to Cardiff City, where he publically stated he would like to remain if they could avoid relegation.

The Irish Independent believe that newly promoted Aston Villa, Championship side Stoke City and recently relegated and managed by brother-in-law Scott Parker’s Fulham are all tracking After.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told the Daily Echo…

EDDIE HOWE:

“I’ll sit down with Harry and have a conversation with him and see what we do. I think it’s going to be a two-way process.

“I think he’s done a really good job for Cardiff this year, so let’s wait and see.”

“I’ve got so much time and respect for Harry…”

Your say…

He’s been a great player for us and there will always be that special bond between player and club for the part he played in our rise through the divisions and also the difficult off-field journey he and his family have been on.

It’s been great to follow his development from being plucked from non-league to an international player for Ireland.

As much as anything it’s his leadership qualities we’ve not yet been able to replace in midfield, (the geeing up, rallying the troops, crunching tackle to get the crowd going, etc) although with Jefferson Lerma hopefully picking up a bit more of the lingo, maybe he will be able to step into that role (he’s certainly got the crunching tackle covered!).

Arter will always be welcome at Bournemouth.

Surely villa bound
if you believe he said he wanted to remain in the prem, if he goes to fulham then that statment was a load of bull.
i just hope with our tv payments 114 million and our parchute payments filling the coffers we go out and spend a bit,
we have 4 players to replace and some to move on so 6/8 new players in.

I appreciate that this seems unlikely, but if there's any persuading him to sign for us ,that'd be the key to promotion.

If it took a record fee and huge wages then it would be worth it because it would provide the continuity in midfield which represents the biggest danger of our falling flat . It's a big thing to replace a whole section of the team in one go with players while never linked with their team mates.

Even if this is impossible , it's nearer the mark in terms of the quality of players we need in midfield. We don't want has beens or experiments as to whether people can step up from lower leagues and if it's a choice between two or three proper players and six cheap ones we must go for decent quality.

Again, if it's a matter of choices, we need two GOOD midfielders even more than a striker, but let's hope we can get adequate replacements all round.

I'll be honest, if they start buying Billy Bango from the Dog and Duck pub team I'll lose belief that they're serious about progressing .

SIR JIMMY SCHOULAR

The funds are there to buy or loan, i agree
We don't want the likes of stuart downing and the like, who have been around the block twice we all know who the quality players are so there is now need to be scratching around in the lower leagues unless they are a youngster who has great potential

However have to agree entirely with the rest of your post. We need quality not quantity. We need three quality players, maybe 4 who will start the first game. Once we have them we have plenty of good cover for every position and the only others we should considering signing are "ones for the future".
