Wednesday 29th May 2019

Ryan Giggs has named a 28-man squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Croatia and Hungary.

Wales are preparing for a huge double header away from home, taking on Croatia on Saturday, June 8, and Hungary on Tuesday, June 11.

After holding a training camp in Portugal, Giggs has now selected his squad for the upcoming crunch Euro 2020 qualifiers, which features four uncapped players.

Swansea City's Dan James returns to the fold after withdrawing from the Portugal camp due to the sudden death of his father , while Ben Woodburn has been called up after missing the Algarve camp due to his involvement in the Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham in Madrid on June 1.

Likewise, Harry Wilson and Tom Lawrence are called up after missing training camp for Aston Villa's Championship play-off final clash with Derby at Wembley.

A notable absentee is injured Aaron Ramsey while Wales are without Ben Davies who has an ongoing groin issue. Fans will welcome Ethan Ampadu's call-up after previously struggling with a back injury.

The squad's four uncapped players are Manchester United's Dylan Levitt, Barnsley's Kieffer Moore and Ben Williams, and Swansea City's Joe Rodon.

Manchester United's Levitt has represented Wales' intermediate sides in the last year. The 18-year-old midfielder came through the United system before signing a professional contract in 2018.

Levitt was born in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire, in November 2000, and he's been described as a 'classy' midfield player, a 'creative schemer', though one who can play a number of role, from sitting in front of the back four to pushing on in support of the strikers.

The young midfielder has impressed playing for United's Under-23 side this season, also partaking in some first-team training by invitation of boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Striker Moore - who netted 19 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions for Barnsley last term - qualifies to represent the Red Dragons through his grandfather who was born in Llanrug.

Moore's Barnsley team mate Williams - a left-back who qualifies to play for Wales through his grandfather who was born in St Asaph- made 11 league appearances for the Reds last term as they gained promotion from League One.

Rodon, meanwhile, was called up to the Wales squad to replace Newcastle United's Paul Dummett last year but is yet to pick up a senior cap for his country.

The full squad:

Wayne Hennessey (Crystal Palace), Danny Ward (Leicester City), Adam Davies (Barnsley), Ashley Williams (Stoke City, on loan from Everton), Neil Taylor (Aston Villa), Chris Mepham (Bournemouth AFC), Chris Gunter (Reading), Connor Roberts (Swansea City), Ben Williams (Barnsley), Ethan Ampadu (Chelsea), Joe Rodon (Swansea City), Tom Lockyer (Bristol Rovers), James Lawrence (RSC Anderlecht), Joe Allen (Stoke City), Jonathan Williams (Charlton Athletic), Will Vaulks (Rotherham United), David Brooks (Bournemouth), Matthew Smith (Manchester City), Dylan Levitt (Manchester United), Dan James (Swansea City), Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Ben Woodburn (Liverpool), Harry Wilson (Derby County, on loan from Liverpool), Tom Lawrence (Derby County), Rabbi Matondo (Schalke 04), George Thomas (Scunthorpe United, on loan from Leicester City), Sam Vokes (Stoke City), Kieffer Moore (Barnsley).

He must be injured. There's no way he wouldn't otherwise be in the team.

I don’t hugely follow Wales but it looks like Giggs is assembling a great squad of youngsters with a fair bit of promise for the near future.

From the clips I just watched he seems like a right footed left winger.

Good so see Dylan Levitt breaking into the Wales squad. Also a positive that Joe Rodon is finally in the squad too and Rabbi Matondo is still there. Shame about Ben Davies and Rambo as they are really important players, and with these 2 games probably being the toughest of our set of fixtures we really could have done with them, but oh well cant be helped.
