European Cup Winner's Cup Semi-final Second Leg:

Cardiff City 2, SV Hamburg 3 in front of almost 45,000 at Ninian Park (Hamburg won 4-3 on aggregate).

Germans lost 2-0 to AC Milan in Rotterdam later that month in the Final.

and 45 years ago yesterday we relegated Crystal Palace.

Cant believe it was that long ago. We were seconds from going into extra time and as Hamburg were tiring, probably into a European Final to play AC Milan. And then Bob Wilson, who had been superb throughout the competition made the mistake that must have haunted him for the rest of his career. Can still remember most of the side. Norman Dean scored the first goal to put in front, I think Uwe Seller got one for Hamburg and Brian Harris the equaliser.

It always amazes me how the Real Madrid game is always talked about - that was only the Quarter Final- but the Hamburg game seems to be a bit overlooked.

I was there and that Uwe Zeller goal haunts me to this day. Fabulous ECWCup football nights under the lights of old Ninian Park. Great times following the City in those days.
