This should go without saying, but if you are part of a group of traveling soccer fans, please do not push elderly people into fountains. That’s a lesson not learned by a group of Liverpool fans in Barcelona for the Champions League semifinal, who played true to stereotypes by rampaging through the Catalan city, causing mayhem and insulting the populace.

Six Liverpool Fans Arrested

Liverpool Fans 'Assault Two Hotel Workers' In Spain Ahead Of Barcelona Clash

By Josh Lawless

Wednesday 1st May 2019

Reports say that workers at the Plaça Reial hotel in the main square in Barcelona were assaulted by Liverpool fans.

According to Mundo Deportivo, two employees at the nearby hotel on the square required medical attention and two other people suffered bruises, with one apparently suffering a broken nose.

Six Liverpool fans have been arrested in the city, for attacking local street sellers and criminal damage.

Nearly 5,000 Reds' fans have made the trip to Catalonia and on Tuesday afternoon hundreds gathered in the Placa Reial square, where one supporter was filmed pushing two locals into the fountain.

In the first video, an elderly Asian man standing on the edge of the fountain is pushed in by a fan. Some Liverpool supporters can then be heard laughing and chanting 'Liverpool, taking the piss" - with one making a racist comment.

The local man stands there drenched checking to see if his phone is broken, unaware of who the culprit is.

Then in a second clip, the same fan, with his grey hair, blue fleece and jeans, is seen doing the same thing to another local minding his own business near the fountain.

Several Liverpool fans have condemned the actions of the fan and urged the club to take action, while Merseyside Police confirmed that they are aware of the video circulating online.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the Placa Reial square was later completely cordoned off by Spanish police and Liverpool fans were then moved onto La Rambla, the hugely popular tourist street in Barcelona.

If you deny something is your fault enough, you start to believe and in the end it becomes the truth in your own mind

The 'entitled' Scousers are the best out there when it comes to denial and deflection

Always the victims and never the cause...

Sound words

But sadly a contradiction on the reality of too many Liverpool supporters; they don't 'act in a manner that befits LFC' and the certainly don't do 'grace and humility' (not unless those two work in a Barcelona Boudoir) ;) :(

Liverpool condemn 'unacceptable' behaviour after Barcelona fountain incidents

SKY SPORTS

Liverpool have told fans to show 'respect' in Barcelona, after footage emerged appearing to show old people being pushed into a fountain

Liverpool are working with police to identify fans involved in an incident in Barcelona, after videos emerged showing people being pushed into a fountain.

The footage circulated on social media after fans gathered in the Placa Reial square on Tuesday ahead of the club's Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

One clip appeared to show a Liverpool fan direct a racial slur at a passer-by.

Sky Sports News understands no arrests have been made in relation to the incident but Liverpool are working with Merseyside police, who are part of the overall police presence in Barcelona, to identify those involved.

"Such behaviour is clearly totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated," Liverpool said in a statement.

"It would be inappropriate to comment further while the situation is ongoing other than to confirm the club will follow due process in any and all cases of this nature."

Merseyside police have confirmed six men were arrested by Spanish Police on Tuesday on suspicion of public order offences following an unrelated incident.

Superintendent Paul White warned Merseyside Police "can act on incidents using British Law and we will take action".

He added: "This type of behaviour is wholly unacceptable and I want to remind fans who are travelling with tickets to monitor official fan advice on the club's official website and social media feeds for information to assist their visit. Given the vigilance of police and security around the stadium, we would encourage fans to arrive in plenty of time."

Sky Sports News spoke to Liverpool fans on Wednesday about the incident

In a message posted on Twitter on Wednesday morning, Liverpool chief-executive Peter Moore said: "We proudly sing that we've conquered all of Europe. But let's treat this beautiful city with the respect that it deserves, and act in a manner that is befitting of LFC.

"By all means have a good time, but we are Liverpool, and as such, let's visit here with grace and humility."

There was unrest in Barcelona throughout Tuesday evening, as Liverpool supporters accused Spanish police of acting heavy-handedly after being moved on from areas in which they were drinking.

On Tuesday, as thousands of fans began to arrive in the city, Merseyside Police's dedicated Twitter account for Liverpool fans tweeted the advice: "Eat, drink and enjoy all areas in the city centre. Respect monuments."

Liverpool Fans Shove Old Man Into A Fountain, Generally Wreak Havoc At Barcelona Plaza

01/05/19

This should go without saying, but if you are part of a group of traveling soccer fans, please do not push elderly people into fountains. That’s a lesson not learned by a group of Liverpool fans in Barcelona for the Champions League semifinal, who played true to stereotypes by rampaging through the Catalan city, causing mayhem and insulting the populace.

The most vivid example of this is a video that made the rounds on Twitter on Tuesday showing someone shoving an old man into a fountain at the Plaça Reial, with red-clad fans calling the man “Mr. Miyagi” and cackling:

The old guy wasn’t the only bystander to suffer the moronic wrath of what appears to be the same fan, who also dunked another man into the water:

According to AS, six Liverpool fans were detained by Barcelona police in connection to the incident, which devolved into fans throwing beer cans at police officers when they descended on the plaza to break up the hooliganism. The mayhem was not contained to the plaza, either. At a nearby hotel, Liverpool fans reportedly attacked two hotel workers, leaving them in need of medical attention, according to Mundo Deportivo. Two other people were injured in the fighting, with one coming away with a broken nose.

Liverpool CEO Peter Moore put out a statement on Twitter after the incident, lightly condemning the actions without addressing them specifically:

The club itself also put out a statement on its website, using harsher words (“clearly totally unacceptable” and “will not be tolerated” is more effective than a plea for respect) and promising to work with both Merseyside Police and Spanish authorities to identify the culprits.

While not as destructive as the England/Russia kerfuffle in Marseille during the 2016 Euros, Tuesday’s incident seems in some way worse due to its complete one-sidedness. At least in Marseille, fans were fighting each other. Pushing an old man into a fountain and then racially abusing him, throwing beer cans at police, and attacking hotel workers is a sure way to not just wreak havoc, but also to continue the age-old stereotype that English tourists, soccer ones especially, are the worst.

An unsuspecting beer seller was thrown into a fountain by a rowdy Liverpool supporter in Barcelona.

A video showed the fan sneaking up behind the local and then tipping him into the water in Placa Reial square yesterday afternoon. Another clip showed a second person being shoved into the fountain. Liverpool supporters were gathered in the area prior to tonight’s Champions League semi-final first leg tie with Barcelona. The fans involved have been widely condemned, including by fellow supporters.

The local beer seller was shocked after being pushed into the fountain The Anfield Edition Liverpool FC platform tweeted: ‘Here’s the “Liverpool fan” who tripped a Barcelona local into the fountain. ‘Vile behaviour and not what the club is about at all. ‘Think @LFC should attempt to take this further, he doesn’t represent our fan base.’ Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported police had arrested six Liverpool fans in Catalonia after four people, including two hotel workers, were assaulted.

A victim is said to have suffered a broken nose.

Double amputee forced to crawl through hotel on anniversary trip with wife An elderly Liverpool fan attacked the local for no reason Liverpool fans were also accused of throwing objects at authorities, which led to around 3,000 cans of beers being confiscated from sellers, according to Spanish newspaper Sport. Liverpool CEO Peter Moore pleaded with Liverpool fans to behave. He tweeted: ‘We proudly sing that we’ve conquered all of Europe. But let’s treat this beautiful city with the respect that it deserves, and act in a manner that is befitting of LFC. ‘By all means have a good time, but we are Liverpool, and as such, let’s visit here with grace and humility.’

Man suspected of dumping Barcelona street seller in fountain named by Liverpool FC fans

Liverpool Echo

Thursday 2nd May 2019

'Liverpool fan' pushes man into fountain

A man suspected of pushing a Barcelona street seller into a fountain has been named by Liverpool FC fans.

Angry supporters have named Martin 'Marty' Mullen as the man shown in a shocking video , which shows a local being flipped into a fountain while others watch on and laugh.

Mr Mullen is understood to be a longstanding fan who has been travelling to away matches for many years.

The video, which has since gone viral, was filmed in the Plaza Reial and shows a man in a navy blue fleece running over to a local street seller and picking him up by his legs before launching him into the fountain.

There is also a second video , filmed in the same location, which shows Liverpool fans laughing as another man emerges from the fountain soaking wet and clearly distressed.

The fan from the original video can be seen laughing along with a group of fans, one of whom makes a racist remark to the man.

Meanwhile other fans can also be seen mocking the man and laughing at him in the middle of the square.

The distressing footage then shows the man, whose clothes are soaked through from the incident, checking his phone to see if it was broken when he was dumped into the water.
