Sheffield United plot striker transfer as Cardiff City star's future remains up in the air -

By Matthew Davies

Monday 29th April 2019

Sheffield United plan to hold talks with Cardiff City striker Gary Madine.

The on-loan striker has been described as a "lucky charm" in Yorkshire after helping the Blades seal promotion to the Premier League.

Chris Wilder has done a fantastic job at Bramall Lane, and Madine has proved to be a big part of that since he arrived in January.

This will be Madine's third promotion in a row after helping his parent club to the promised land last season and helping previous employers Bolton get out of League One the campaign before.

The £6million man struggled for game-time under Neil Warnock and sought a loan away from South Wales to gain minutes.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man is contracted to Cardiff until 2021, but it appears his future lies away from the Welsh capital. Wilder likes him and the Blades plan talks to sign him permanently, according to national reports.

The striker has revealed he prefers to be closer to his home in the north of England, telling the club website a few days ago:

GARY MADINE:

"This feels like home to me now, I'd be devastated if I had to move on from here at the end of the season, I'd love to stay for as long as the manager wants me to and hopefully that's beyond the summer.

"I knew I'd enjoy it here, that's why I jumped at the chance to come, but I wasn't thinking about the future, I just wanted to come and play games, score goals and win promotion again.

"These lads are a special bunch, working daily with this manager and his staff is something I've relished. I don't want to be disrespectful to Cardiff City, but it's a long way from home and it's never really happened for me there. I'm settled here, I'm content and happy, I've proved I play my best football when I'm happy and I couldn't be happier than I am at Sheffield United."

Warnock has got away with murder for wasting the owner’s money on Madine. Shows it’s not what you do, it’s who you are that counts

I'd happily take Billy Sharp in exchange

Add Madine to a long list of strikers who have not been very effective...........One its the player, two unfortunate buys, five and its the bloody system.

New midfield next year, so hopefully the next striker will get scorable chances.

I think the days of the big man are dwindling unless we suddenly return to 442. He needs crosses and our wide forwards run to goal on the wrong wing rather than get to the byline and whip a cross in.

Hope he goes and we get our money back, the team need freshening up.

A long way from home ?

Did he think it was closer when he moved here.

I would be amazed if the Blades bought him as he is awful and a waste of £6M

Nothing against Gary Madine as a person...but as a player, take whatever we can get and let him move on :ayatollah:

Really surprised ‘IF’ this is true.
Could understand it if they hadn’t been promoted.

Not a premier league player but he will and has done better for Sheff Utd as they have a much more attack minded manger and will benefit from lots of crosses into the box. None of our centre forwards score many goals as they tend to be left isolated up front with no support paticularly away from home. It would have been the same with Sala had he lived.

Hopefully we got a bonus payment when they went up for this loan.

Not to bothered either way, ideally he would go and be replaced but if not ill take him back.

Not a great fan of his but wouldn't we have done better keeping him rather than getting Niasse on loan?

Please God let it happen. They may not know what they're doing so just accept anything they offer before they change their mind.
