Aron Gunnarsson Send off

Hope the club and fans do something for him Saturday in this day and age he’s been legend of the football club! His last home game.

He’s nowhere near a club legend.

Frank and honest words. What an over-used word "legend" has become.

He's been a decent player and we've paid him well, we'll give him a good clap

Just like our send off for Whitts - it will be piss poor ( as was our send off for Ninian Park ). :(

it is over used ,and im not saying it applies here. but there is certainly a stronger case for Arron than many it gets used to describe. since ive been watching only 4 players Dwyer , Young, Perry ,and Whitts { I did see king and murray as well but not a great deal and at the end of both their careers } played more league games than him..and with the exception of Whitts the games he played in were bigger higher standard and much better attended than the others { including murray and king }...and for 5 different managers..

someone needs to define legend..
if he is not one maybe I will get to see one in my next 50 years ?

Ronaldo he aint but we are not Real Madrid and im a Cardiff fan not a premier league fan. honestly im struggling to find more worthy players to have that tag in my 50 years. we have had some good lower lge players. and better technically gifted players during this golden period. but regulars over our best 8 year period in 70 years ?

I'm with you on this although I regard Peter Whittingham as an club legend. 8 years with any single club is becoming a rarity these days and despite being written off by many fans time and again he'll be one of the first on the team sheet again next Saturday. He's played twice as much for us and for twice as long as Cantona played for United. Many are happy to label Robin Friday a legend. He turned up when he felt like and within a twelve month was gone. I'm not for anything over the top, when he gets taken off, staged late on, if necessary, he leaves the field to a standing ovation given with a bit than the usual enthusiasm.

He's touted himself around before now but it didn't work out for him and many on here were dubious about him last season in the Championship, never mind this

Having said the, Gunnars has been a consistent performer in the team with the style we play, so I wish him all the best and a lap of honour (or maybe a pre-match introduction) would be appropriate

But one England game (in an Iceland shirt) apart, a 'legend' he is not :thumbright:

Legend is definitely an over used word but I would put Gunnar in that bracket. During his time with us he has not only been a trojan but he's been a key part in two sides that won promotion to the premier league as well as reaching the League Cup Final. Not many players in our history have acheived such success. We will miss him when he's gone. :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

I by no means was writing Whitts out or Gunner in...its just people are quick to dismiss..
as for Friday 2 good games and a poor mans Niasse for the rest..

He’s currently our longest serving player and second only to Whitt’s this century! He has always played in the top two leagues and is Captain of his country. We certainly haven’t had such a high profile underrated player for many a year and he certainly deserves a good send off on Saturday. I think we’ll miss him more than many on here appreciate and should have been our Captain in my opinion?

Re: Aron Gunnarsson Send off

He was captain of the Iceland side that humiliated England. For that alone he deserves to be a City legend let alone the other factors.

I haven't mentioned LOYAL, simply because youd have to be completely brain dead to not move clubs or at least consider it if a much better offer came in. and tbh I find it more than a little narrow minded to think any player anywhere does different.
but when he signed that contract we had almost half a season to go mate..so its got zilch to do with going down, which btw we are not yet, and certainly wouldn't be had we had a fair share of decisions this last 4/5 games and more to do with a lucrative offer to play at a less intense level when picking up more and more injuries. but if you want to pretend he signed it sunday feel free lol..
btw, ive not said he is a legend. but have made a case based on his time here and questioned if he is not, who exactly is..

and yes like you i can think of umpteen players who were eye catching for a season or two ,but this guy has done the thankless stuff that so many do not even see and has done it for 8 seasons.. he ticks a lot of boxes. whether you like him or not..

100% player but no legend. Give him a good send off though.

Re: Aron Gunnarsson Send off

Mon Apr 29, 2019 3:45 pm

legend is just a word, the facts are the guy played for us around 8 seasons under 6 managers, scored our first prem goal as someone posted above captained His underdog country against England knocking them outfoxed a major tournament.
He’ll be having a massive standing ovation off me.

Re: Aron Gunnarsson Send off

Been a great servant, but not a legend.

I think he has been on the downgrade for a few seasons, but suited Warnocks never say die philosophy. A better CM than DM his lack of mobility over recent seasons made him more defensive but didn't quite have the technical ability to play the role properly.

A good organiser who i believe will be a good manager in due course.

We are quite poor with leavers, Whitts, Kev & Hudson all deserved better, but its a professional hard business i suppose.

Yes, I appreciate that; but there have been at least two seasons where we expected him to go, he wanted to go, yet he stayed at the last minute

Not knocking his contribution but IMHO he is not a City legend no matter how many games he played

Just a clap in the last game is enough for me.
