Special mention for Lee Peltier

Sun Apr 28, 2019 3:36 pm

Can't recall him letting us down, master of the dark arts. In my opinion we look far better at the back with Bruno at CB and Pelts as RB.

Never a fancy Dan or attractive on the eye going forward but a proper defend first defender !!!

Agree, would struggle to get someone in that's as good at defending as him.

However like in other positions, we could do with a bit more pace and ball control there.

Good post mate. Totally agree.
Tbf Bennett has improved greatly considering the opposition. He’ll be superb next year.

Agree old fashioned but effective at what he does. Defends solidly

Yeah brilliant defender to be fair, If we stayed up, I would have loved us to sign him for next season if we didn't already have him. That's how good he has been for us,

In regards to the right back position, and actually the left too but probably less so. I think we're screaming out for an attacking full back who does what he's told, has a good work rate, but really offers up a thread in attack weather that means a supporting role or someone even more direct. I don't necessarily suggest that he starts over Peltier, but it would be great for us to have the option you know. There's been alot of times this season where Bruno/Peltier haven't needed to do anything special in regards to defending, just positioning more than anything, and our right winger would usually squeeze the opponent and block the cross etc, so those time's we've been screaming out for someone a little bit more creative down the wings to support our wingers. I.E When Bruno/Peltier support down the wing it's often the times we lose possesion the most and give away unnecersary throw ins.

Like I said though, Peltier is as good as it gets, possibly on par with anyone in the bottom half of the table, but it would be nice to have that option in my opinion.

Pelts has excelled in the last couple od months. But I can't agree that he is "as good as it gets", Full backs today need to be able to attack and defend. Take the Liverpool FB's for example, they play in a 433 yet they get forward all the time. Pelts is a good sqaud player. Great to call on when you need to hold a lead. But we need a modern full-back to progress as a club.

None of our squad have let us down they are all busting a gut for the club, they are simply not good enough at this level.
