Where do we finish next season? Why we should be excited

Sun Apr 28, 2019 2:46 pm

To be fair, as doom and gloom as it was yesterday. If we can win at home against Palace (Every chance that could happen) at the very least it makes for an exciting finale. Yes the odds are against us, and I am already looking at the championship next season, even though I'll still have the annoying human feeling of faith as long as there's still a chance.

I'll cheer the team on and truly will believe if we're still in it during the Man U game, I'll be enjoying every second of it and hoping for the best as will all of us. But considering the quality we still have to face in our next two games. Let's ease the pain a little bit by having a nice little chat about next season.

"IF" we're relegated to the championship, where do you realistically see us finishing next season?

Personally, with a little bit of investment for a Right Back, Striker(s) & Central midfielders, I think that could be enough to make us more competitive than the season we got promoted. We still have our solid defence, our counter attacking pace in Mendez-Laing, the experience and creativeness of Hoilett. I genuinely think we have enough to finish second again, but this time possibly chasing first place, instead of struggling to hold down second.

Look, I'll be okay with playoffs, as nothing is guarenteed in football, especially the championship. But with Warnock in charge, with quite a helpful transfer budget to hopefully grab the 3 or 4 players we were missing in our promotion season (because let's face it we definetely need a bit better than Pilkington & Kadeem Harris as our super subs next season), I genuinely believe we're in the healthiest positions out of every championship team next season. Fulham need to sell alot, and cant buy too much due to their over spending last summer. Huddersfield just look awful similar to the Sunderland double relegation. Yet we're in a very healthy financial state, with key players on long term contracts, with - by the sounds of our manager - no intention of letting anyone of them go.

I'm excited for next season whatever happens, and will still hold out hope that we can win our next 2 games (Because Huddersfield MIGHT muster up a draw at best against Arsenal) but that won't be enough for them if we manage 2 wins...just remember that ;). Keep the faith, but if worst comes to the worst we have every right to be excited next season.

I'll guess somewhere between 1st & 24th. ;) Until we have a rough idea of our team for next season, difficult to make a guess. I'm sure quite a few will be shipped out, and a lot will depend on the budget available, and the right players being prepared to come here. Hopefully we will know whether or not we have a side capable of a promotion challenge once our Summer signings are sorted. You would hope that we will be top half of the table side at the very least.

Need a between 6-8 players imo and younger one's. Im not convinced we'll walk the league as some have predicted as I watch the Championship regularly and better and more talented squads have been relegated and they're not even got in the top 6. I think we'll do ok next season as long as we sort out the issues of a right back (guessing Coxe wont get a chance) get a whole new CM and get a top quality striker. I don't think we'll finish in the top 2 if im honest but I do think we'll finish in top 6 which is the minimum for me next season. :bluescarf:

We will win every game by at least 3 clear goals.

Honestly, I think cardiff could reach automatic promotion next season providing a few signings. The places we will struggle to get the quality we need which could be a determining factor between play offs or automatic will be midfield, losing a workhorse in arter and creativity in camarasa, we need quality to fill those gaps. Possibly changing formation to slot in bobby Reid behind a new striker could work although Warnock doesn’t seem to favour him for some reason. Let’s not forget our aerial threat is more promenant in the championship with less able defences and our footballing ability has improved since the championship. Instead of just going into tackles strong and set piece play, we’ve bolstered other options like improved counter attack (although we did that in championship) and better link up play attacking wise although it’s definitely not great football on the eye like that of a lot of PL clubs, it’s better actual football than we played in the Championship IMO

We’re also utilising a good high press in a lot of matches, something a lot of fans were calling for at the end of the championship as there was a lot of sitting back and letting players come at us before we did anything, something we’re still guilty of now but not as much. All in all I think we are a better footballing team now than when we went up a year ago, granted the loanees have helped a lot but they’re not 1 of a kind and other players can be brought in to do a similar job if they don’t come back which camarasa likely won’t as the championship won’t enhance his career although arter maybe on loan again if Bournemouth don’t offer him much playing time as we all know he’s like a kid that wants to play football 24/7

Although we are yo-yo ing back down with a squad of players most of which were in the championship with us last season and those who weren’t (the likes of Reid and Murphy) some of which were in the championship with other clubs and the prem and championship are very different so teams like stoke would find it hard at first even though they have a lot of quality players although I appreciate where you’re coming from and agree it’ll be a long season ahead with a lot of results needing to be ground out

Dont see anything to fear in the champ. Hopefully Villa go up via the playoffs as otherwise they will likely get one of the automatic spots next year.

Other than that no reason we shouldn't be aiming for top 2 with at least a playoff place as a back up. Be intresting to see if anyone other than the obvious loan players and gunner actually leave in the summer.

Phil we are in unique place when comes to players! We will lose 4 definite and those left are above average or good championship standard, so not likely to lose any to premier clubs and not sure if move sideways is good thing for the rest, but my one reservation is how many will want to leave due to nw refusal to play them like Reid murphy ward! Hopefully keep majority of the players and with couple good quality players in correct positions see a good season ahead presuming we do go down that is..... :laughing6:

The major issue I see is that our midfield will almost certainly be brand new and to expect the incoming players to gel into a promotion winning team is expecting an awful lot.

we did lose grujic and bryson at end of last season...who themselves came and fitted. now we are concerned about who replaces their replacements..
Warnock has had some crap on here of late but its an area he has managed very well and got zero credit for { at least ive not seen it mentioned } pple more concerned about 2 mill wasted in a division when the good players cost 50 mill...
