£20 million worth of players

Sat Apr 27, 2019 3:51 pm

Murphy not even in the sqaud and Healey who has been on loan at mk Dons comes on before Reid. What is Warnock doing???

I'm assuming Murphy and Zohore are injured, otherwise Warnock simply lost the plot.

If Reid learns how to throw the ball 30 yards he might get a chance like Healey

I get what NW is saying you reward good trainers etc.

However this is the most important game of our season, how the hell is there anyone in our squad that isn't at maximum right now?

If this is true then JM should have had a rocket on monday and if he still didn't give his all then should be sold at the quickest opportunity and should never play in the shirt again.

The truth of the matter is that all of the little money NW has been given this season has been wasted. For me JM has always blown hot and cold but when he is hot he's as good as anyone and can win you game. Rhys Healey is a good honest pro but is no where near premier league level. For this must win game he needed as much fire power as possible on the bench and to leave JM at home, your number 1 singing is crazy. Then to only give Reid 3 mins wow.

Forget about Palace this was our biggest game of the season and we blew it.

As for Morrison missing sitters. He should have scored at least 5 or 6 this season. Our whole game plan is built around a player who can't score a header from 3 yards. Such a shame as he was heading them in for fun last season!!

I love NW but please bring back some attacking football like Fulham at home etc. This 20% possessions, play for Long throws is absolute drivel.

Yeah throw. That's the only thing Healey can do that Reid cant is take massive throw ins. That's the only conclusion I came to regarding why he keeps getting played before Reid because its not due to ability is it.

Our club requires a total overhaul regarding player recruitment,,, and more importantly, player development. Our record on both counts has been, quite frankly, absolutely appalling for the last fifteen years or so.

But has improved significantly under the manager who spent little and got a lot out of our squad.

People forget that.

I wouldn’t agree with the “spent little” bit, but the “got a lot out of the squad”,,, you certainly can’t fault.

Neil, I'm not sure it's so much 'forgetting' but more not 'thinking' in the beginning

Problem with a lot of supporters is they are fair-weather and on a match by match basis, i.e. win and "I'm City 'til I die!" and lose and it's "You don't know what you're doing! Boooo!"

If Hoilett's shot had gone in off the bar or the penalty be given early on, then Neil Warnock and his team would have been the best thing since sliced bread again...despite the same overall performance

It didn't go unnoticed that 'Dahboy' was amongst those 'straight in there' with at least three and possibly more (I was only on here briefly late last night) threads peddling his long-standing negativity

It's a sad event when someone who claims to be a Cardiff City supporter actually revels in their failure

In the grand scheme of things these days, you would have to say that he did spend little. Now it may be a lot of money to most of us but in football terms it still isn't all that much. We often have played against sides who have one player in their squad that is worth more than all of ours put together.

6 million on a striker Madine. 2 million up front and 4 million if we went up which we did which he helped. Certainly wasn’t a huge influence but next year he might be unless Sheff Utd buy him as per the loan agreement as they are up. In fact we get a chunky bonus out of that too.

Relative to other clubs in both the divisions we are in he spent very little. This has enabled us to pretty much get out of debt.

In the history of Cardiff City NW has done wonders and deserves respect.

NW has already stated he will be here next season, slade was awful but had a difficult time after ollie.
Trollope well without NW we would have dropped to the third tier.
Perhaps its the 10000 who came along for the PL ride or the 5000 who come along to the bristol, villa and jacks games.
Carefull what you wish for.

I still stick to my original post that our clubs transfer recruitment policy’s and systems (if any?), need to be seriously reviewed. I can’t help but feel that player transfers have all been a bit “hit and miss”, for a long time now, certainly since before NW took over. Lets not forget also, that the investigation in to Emiliano Sala’s transfer is still ongoing, as tragic and heartbreaking as it is.

I was hoping Sheffield Utd would sign and keep Madine but I’d be very surprised if they did now which means he’ll be back with us. Then I wouldn’t be surprised if Warnock wants to keep him.
I really hope not.

Yes, I agree All clubs, specially established Premiership club, take a punt from time to time,,, but can we afford that many?

Talking about value for money, was Lee Tomlin good value? Or Gary Madine? Or Alex Smithies? Or Greg Cunningham?

Weve been playing with square pegs in round holes all season long, & as a result we are where we are. Everyone could see that goalscoring was a major problem, which we just about got away with in the Championship. Also the lack of creativity in midfield? Someone earlier described our set plays as parks football. I couldn't agree more. Also the amout of posession we continued to give away this season is tantamount to criminal.

We have some very good player, but our overall limitations were there to see, even before the season had started.

Look at the Signings last Summer, & look at the areas that we really needed to strengthen, & I feel the money spent on those four players above, & a few others, could have been better spent.

Re: £20 million worth of players

Most posts on this thread have a high degree of truth to be fair. Personally I would rather a manager reward continued effort in training over going through the motions and would hate to see someone like macheda just turn up game time and go through the motions just because of a so called past reputation.
Whether his big money signings will be a success is questionable but there's no denying his "bargain basement" signings have proved good. Hit and miss that's football in my opinion

by ALL clubs I did mean all clubs not certain ones taking a punt...
try Burnley.. Gibson 15 million 1 app ..we had Greg Cunningham..for Smithies how about Joe Hart on a similar fee but 3/4 times the wages..and bogle ? Vydra 5mill 1 goal....tbh if all those 3 did was make tea its 10 times the value for money that burnley got..as for Madine, 2 mill plus a promotion bonus for someone that could take pressure of zohore, he did we did but pple think it was rubbish ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
im sure every single club has fans that think money could be better spent when players don't come off , most of their arguments hold far more water though..

So you think that Gary Madine was a good signing then?

Dont think he said that
