OT - Corbyn refuses Trump

Fri Apr 26, 2019 3:53 pm

Corbyn has declined the Queens invitation to the State Dinner with President Trump.

Imagine if he becomes Prime Minister and refuses to acknowledge the leader of the most powerful country in the world.

Re: OT - Corbyn refuses Trump

No matter what you think of Trump personally, he has done a fantastic job as president.

If it was not for a few wacky ideas he would be the perfect guy , sounds a bit like Vincent Tan really.

I would have loved to see Trump negotiating our Brexit deal for us,he would have sorted them fuckers out.

I'm with you in this...

No matter that it's Donald J Trump, Jnr.

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks of the man himself. The the invite is to the current President of the USA; the UK's biggest ally and friend

There is a far bigger picture to be seen here and Corbyn's complete lack of diplomacy and courtesy give us another sobering insight into the man (no Saint himself) ever becoming leader of the UK

Have (peaceful) protests, if that's what floats your boat, but don't stop him coming; that would smack if hypocrisy rather than democracy

Completely support the Leader of the Opposition on this.

Personally I’m not a fan of either the Monarchy or Trump.

He’ll get slated on here for refusing though.

umm not quite sure where you’ve formed that opinion from unless you’re idea of fantastic leadership is reverting back to a more socially conservative government

You have to see past the person and see he us the Leader of the most powerful country in the world and our closest allie.

If your going to lead a Country you can't just ignore another.

Corbyn will happily meet Hammas though. A terrorist organisation.
This country is truly fucked if Corbyn ever gains power.

Because he could be and you're getting an insight to the thinking if the man. Diplomacy has NEVER been a Corbyn trait and his own selection of bedfellows leaves quite a lot to desire

The deep-rooted inner beliefs of Jeremy Corbyn will manifest quickly should he get the top job and this country would need to be concerned of what would follow

Why do you think he (or Labour) cannot or will not give a straight answer to a straight question on so many things, e.g. National Security, taxes and Brexit to name a few? :(

f**k me I don't think May, Cameron, Blair etc etc gave a straight answer to any question they faced, hardly something new in politics is it :laughing6:

I'd rather not, if that's okay with you. I stated elsewhere I am heterosexual but I appreciate some people have other orientations. As I also said, it's not wrong; it's just different

On the actual subject, they pretty much all lie which makes any objection to Trump a little hypocritical at best

Corbyn doesn't or cannot give an answer on any current issue because he knows his agenda is not what is (poorly) being portrayed in the efforts to get him into No.10

He's sitting on a fence but knows which side he's going to.fall when it collapses...and it will be 100% to the left

PS: Don't mistake my opinion on Corbyn as a reflection in the many decent Labour MP's that include my own representative :thumbright:

What a hypocrite! Happily meet terrorists but not a leader of the free world? May have low opinion of trump but he deserves respect that his office warrants :old:

Corbyn said he was happy to meet Trump. He just won't attend a state dinner with him (like many other party leaders).

The comments in this thread are no surprise, but how about a bit of honesty and accuracy in amongst the Corbyn bashing?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-48070983

In a statement, Mr Corbyn said: "Theresa May should not be rolling out the red carpet for a state visit to honour a president who rips up vital international treaties, backs climate change denial and uses racist and misogynist rhetoric.

"Maintaining an important relationship with the United States does not require the pomp and ceremony of a state visit. It is disappointing that the prime minister has again opted to kowtow to this US administration.

"I would welcome a meeting with President Trump to discuss all matters of interest."

Re: OT - Corbyn refuses Trump

The question should be why did May invite a man who seems to undermine many of the principles both our countries have stood and fought ( unlike Trump) for. He is reviled by many in his own party/country.
Why not have a visit without involving the full state version?

It will be only the third state visit by a US president during the Queen’s 67-year reign. so we were not "obliged" to. I am no fan of Corby n but I can understand his decision and Vince Cables (wh much has not been mentioned on another anti Corby n thread).

Why have state visits for people like Trump (Pinochet and Mugabe!) in the past?
We should be celebrating the heroes of WW1 and WW2 on the 75 years anniversary, but I agree with Gerald Vernon-Jackson, the Liberal Democrat leader of Portsmouth city council. If anything Trump’s visit could overshadow the D-day commemorations.

“I am disappointed because it will change the nature of the event a great deal; for us the centre of the events was meant to be the veterans,” he said

We can all have agendas when it suits and yours above is quite clear; but the simple fact is that engagement will always (excuse the pun) trump the shunning of the leader of a country, like it or not, that we may need on our side in the not too distant future, as the UK effectively screws itself up in Europe through the Brexit farce

Politics is not simplistic; sometimes, little things you do when you'd rather not can manifest themselves into far more positive and meaningful things in the longer term. Corbyn should look longer term and to the 'greater good' rather than playing solely to his 'leftie' mates

Quote Trumps racist rhetoric. Ironic coming from the guy who won't address anti-Semitism in his own party too.

Ripping up vital international treaties? Basically he's putting his own people and country first, exactly what I'd expect from any leader regardless the Country. Is Corbyn saying he wouldn't address any treaties that negatively impacted on the UK if leader??

Hmmmm he makes the loudest noise he could about not meeting trump (state banquet) but I'll meet you behind the bike shed for a chat if you like? Can see trump pandering to his invetation! Bash Corbyn what makes you think that?

Good on him refusing to meet a senile meglomaniac, not a fan of Corbyn but well done in refusing to suck up to America, for too long we've been puppets to them and someone needs to stand up to a bully.

It is, they have higher numeracy and literacy levels than us but the people have bugger all and most of them want to leave. If they had the shite weather we get they’d all be swimming to Florida.
