Ole Gunnar Soljkaer Cardiff promotion team.

Thu Apr 25, 2019 1:52 pm

Since Soljkaer lost again last night, I thought I’d show some perspective against certain United fans’ opinion that Solskjaer didn’t have enough time, or that he took over a team that wasn’t his.

Ofcourse there are a couple fan favourites such as Kenywyne Jones & Fabio that I’ve missed out, but it’s purely just to avoid any debates about what they actually offered us, I.E some people saying Fabio overcommitted too much, and Keynwyne Jones lazy etc. For the sake of argument I’ll not include a couple players.

Tell me, considering the squad that Warnock got promoted, what’s Ole’s excuse when you consider you could’ve made this team with his players

Marshall

Bruno
Morrison
Hudson
John

Ralls
Gunnarsson
Medel

Pilkington
Noone
Burgstaller

I have included players who were contracted to us that Solskjaer didn’t have to sell or release.

You might say well there’s not much pace on the wings in that team? Well Ole had enough money to buy quick wingers. He literally signed about 10 players we genuinely didn’t need. God knows how many Attackers he bought, and not a single one with any pace? I’ve included Bruno at Left Back purely since he was faster too, his legs were more fresh considering he’s not approaching 31 and when Ole signed him he was about 25. If he can play Left Back now, be it with certain restrictions, he certainly could’ve arguably done a better job back then. Again, showing the lack of tactical / general knowledge compared to Warnock who clearly knows what he’s doing.

Ole is genuinely tactically inept, and in my opinion he can learn his trade as much as he likes, but he just doesn’t have it. I always ‘liked’ him as our manager, but that was nothing down to his talent as a manager, it was just who he was and a generally likeable person. That doesn’t mean jack shit though if you want to be the manager of Cardiff City, never mind Manchester bloody United.

Declan John is shit and Bruno has never played left back once.

Ole probably should of done better with us.

But saying the results he’s had lately is because he’s tactically inept is saying the same thing about Jose Mourinho. The players are lazy and they couldn’t give two fucks about playing for Man Utd they need a complete clear out of players.

Still baffles me to this day how we didn't go up with this team

David Marshall
Kevin McNaughton
Mark Hudson
Darcy Blake
Matt kennedy
Chris Burke
Steve McPhail
Joe Ledley
Peter Whittingham
Jay Bothroyd
Michael Chopra

And Ross McCormack on the bench. But i guess thats a different story  Great football mind.

I don't think that original team would have got promoted if I'm honest. John not up to it, no striker, little pace or power. Also medel was never going to play in the championship.

Manga never played left-back but Declan John did - but was dire, still is. It’s a decent championship side but personally I don’t think that side was ever good enough to go up.

Medel had just had the tournament of his life at the World Cup remember. No way could he have been forced to stay.

Yes he is first team regular with Besiktas currently third in the league if they sneel into second might even see him the champions league next year. Was far too good for us anyway
