The truth behind Liverpool fans' alleged Emiliano Sala chant at Cardiff

A football website claimed that Liverpool supporters sang an offensive song on Sunday which mocked the tragic death of the forward in January

The football website that published a story claiming Liverpool fans sang a vile chant about the late Cardiff City forward Emiliano Sala on Sunday has apologised for any offence caused.

Caught Offside have also claimed that they they have removed the article from the website, although as of the time of writing it is still online.

The truth is that no such chant occurred; something which has been confirmed by both clubs, journalists and several Cardiff supporters at the match.

It is not known why Caught Offside decided to publish the story, although in their fairly half-hearted apology they cite "several accounts on Twitter" claiming that the chant was heard.

"We have removed an article from yesterday afternoon and apologise for any offence caused," Caught Offside tweeted, when the article was still live.

"It reported on allegations that chanting from a section of Liverpool fans present at the Cardiff City game mocked the death of Emiliano Sala.

"Despite several accounts on Twitter that offensive songs could be heard, no audio and video footage to corroborate those initial allegations have surfaced and a great many contradictory accounts have been made.

"We apologise again for any offence caused."
