The Reds boss was unhappy with some of the behaviour of Bluebirds fans and the Cardiff City pitch

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has criticised the behaviour of Cardiff City fans during his side's 2-0 win in the Welsh capital.

A competitive game at the Welsh capital was settled courtesy of Georginio Wijnaldum's second-half opener and a late James Milner penalty, elevating Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League.

It was the sort of rip-roaring atmosphere one would expect from a game of such magnitude, with both sets of fans in good voice.

Klopp, who having stood on the touchline in front of the world-famous Yellow Wall at Borussia Dortmund and now at Anfield, one of English football's most atmospheric grounds, arguably knows a thing or two about displays of passion.

And when asked about what the thought about the atmosphere inside the Cardiff City Stadium, he admitted that while backed by an impressively noisy home faithful, he wasn't impressed by the way City fans revelled in Liverpool's early frustrations in finding a breakthrough.

He said after the game: “It’s Easter and I don’t think it’s a day not to tell the truth. I don’t like it when the crowd celebrates the failure of other teams, to be 100 per cent honest.

"Yes, the atmosphere is great but if we miss a goal I don’t know why that is the loudest moment in the game. I never liked that in my whole life and it happens in other stadiums.

"Apart from that, it’s a brilliant place. The city with that weather would make a nice holiday. The stadium is fantastic but if you ask me you get an honest answer... It will be interesting until the last match day.”

Klopp was also unhappy with the state of the Cardiff City pitch, suggesting after game that it was too dry and subsequently unsafe.

Asked how a dry pitch affects the game, Klopp replied: “We had to convince our groundsman it was against the ethos, they didn’t want to do it because they’re too proud for that.

"Don’t cut the grass and leave it dry. We trained yesterday for one hour and 10 minutes on a bone-dry pitch just to get used to it. I spoke about that last year at West Brom when people called me a bad loser.

"I don’t even remember if we lost that day or drew. It’s just football. Dry pitches are dangerous, for players injury-wise. You run and when you stop, it can happen. You know why people leave a pitch dry so I don’t have to say that.

"If you didn’t see it, I’m sorry about that. I don’t know exactly why the pitch was dry – the ball doesn’t roll that quickly. It’s difficult for the fluency of the game.

"If you ask footballers what they want, they’d say a wet pitch, let’s go, let’s pass, let’s play football. You can slide better, everything is better.

"But we were prepared. This time we learned from all of our mistakes in the past. This time we were prepared so I’m happy with the outcome.”

However, Klopp's concerns were dismissed by Cardiff boss Neil Warnock, who was full of praise for the efforts made by his side.

Asked if he felt the pitch was dangerous, he replied: “No, it wasn’t. It was watered before the game. I see where he (Klopp) is coming from. Unless the groundsman thought there was a hose pipe ban from the olden days.

"As far as I am aware, he watered the pitch before the kick-off.

“We wanted to try and give them a game and attack them when we could. We didn’t want to just sit back for a boring 0-0, so whenever we could we tried to have a go at them.

“They are just a good side aren’t they. There is not a weakness in their team or the bench. It’s a fabulous Premier League title race this year because both sides are unbelievable.

“I did feel we could get something today, but one piece of slack marking at a corner, and that’s the quality they’ve got."

Hahaha. Sour grapes me thinks. "Loudest moment of the game" he could only dream of home support like ours. Half the numbers twice the noise of Anfield.

The same coach that reckons his goalkeeper had a concussion and this couldn’t catch the ball - yet still in fine condition to remain on the pitch.

The same coach that blamed Liverpool’s inability to beat Everton away on the wind.

Don’t take the guy seriously

The pitch looked fantastic, the sprinklers were on as normal... as for Cardiff fans and any issues.... maybe he should look at his own fans buying tickets in home ends when travelling away. As for cheering when they miss we do it with most teams

The pitch was poor, it looked good but the ball wasn't moving with any pace and held up so I can understand Klopps comments , especially when his team relies on quick countering football .

I don't know what world he lives in if he thinks we are the only fans that cheer an opposition miss. I never used to mind him or his team but the more these teams get the more they want. Try managing a lower half team with a fraction of the resources and then see how you feel.

I used to really like him, thought he was a breath of fresh air but the longer he is at Liverpool the more miserable and moaning he becomes. A bit like Mourinho.

he does not understand fans of a bottom team cheering a miss when a top team who they are playing against has a decent chance..{ he has never understood it }
and would never celebrate another team dropping points { would love to be a fly on the wall in his house should Citeh not win Weds } ..
he is clearly a decent manager but talks as if he has never even been to watch football on times..

It's to get under the players skin, I don't see nothing wrong with it.

In regards to the pitch I thought it was quite dry and the ball weren't moving at pace when kept on the floor.. surely can't be alone on that?

the whole point in not watering it and having the grass a bit longer was to slow it down . I don't think anyone has said different
as for getting under players skin.. whats the point AFTER the game ?

Agreed.

City did nothing wrong in not watering the pitch. It would be different if we just watered the half we were attacking (similar to Liverpool just clearing the snow in the half they were attacking after half time in my post above !!) but the pitch was the same for both teams, the dry pitch just suited us because it slowed their passing down.

It's no different to teams who like to get it wide having the maximum width and teams who play more narrowly having the minimum width.

All part of tactics, nothing untoward or illegal. Klopp moaning about something similar to what his club takes advantage of too.

If they were squeaky clean that's fine, if not they should just take it on the chin just like everyone else.

If his goalie had a concusion...as if he'd have let him play on a 'hard' pitch. As he did..maybe he needs to take a look.at his duty of care to his players. Two faced idiot!

pitch was perfect for ourselves and would be perfect for 75% of prem teams...
not perfect for klopp, Liverpool , their scumbag murdering fans and sympathisers , or the other 25% .so tough.

as for it being dangerous...uhh..not watering our pitch for an hour = dangerous ..

pre empting this and having their Liverpool groundsmen prepare an equally dry pitch = safe

only in Liverpool .

having lost the world cup final i hope they go on to not win the title either..
