NEIL WARNOCK:

Does Cardiff have the makings of a Premier League club?

Warnock: “I think it’s a good investment and Tan doesn’t want to sell it.

“It’s a club that could more than hold its own in the Premier League.

“I think there could be more in the stadium. Build it up to 40-odd thousand. The number of kids with their mothers I see. It’s very encouraging I think.

“You talk about Liverpool like it’s a foregone conclusion but it’s a chance for families to come and remember something.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

'The supporters have been hurt as well'

“They’ve been through it all. They’ve been the massive plus for us.

“They were amazing on Saturday and they’ve been hurt as well by things going against us.

“It’s been a very disappointing time for us but they’ve been amazing. I’m sure they’ll be vocal again.

“When I’m stood there at the new stadium it’s a really good atmosphere down there.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Q: Is the game with Brighton the point of no return?

“I think you can say that. I thought we had to win both Burnley and Brighton if I’m honest, so we’re one down.

“So it becomes all the more important really, for both teams. They must feel the same.”

Injury news

Any other knocks?

“There’a couple. One lad’s had a scan, so I’ll know more today.

“I don’’t want to play anyone that’s not 100 per cent. The lad wants to play but we’ve got to make a decision.”

Sol Bamba and Callum Paterson still about?

“They are. Callum’s moaning as always. Big Sol’s still everybody’s friend. So they’re good lads. They’re all in it together.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

'We've just got to look at the golf'

With the second half at Burnley better, can you bring back the energy ?

Warnock: “I hope so. I just felt we were a little bit apprehensive.

“The occasion is going to be even bigger tomorrow. We’ve had that many kicks in the teeth over the last four months and keep bouncing back.

“We’ve just got to look at the golf and look at what Tiger’s done. An amazing comeback. No one gave him a chance. It’s an opportunity for us to give ourselves a chance..”

On Tiger Woods:

“It’s just an amazing story. He’s been written off that many times.

“That determination. And we have too. Over the last few weeks we’ve felt sorry for ourselves at times.

“We don’t have time to do that now. We’ve got to give it our best shot and if it’s not good enough we have to accept it then.

“On another day we might have got another result on Saturday but it wasn’t to be so we’ve got to be as positive as we can.”

Brighton defeat 'makes it harder for us'

On Brighton’s 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth:

“If anything that’s made it harder for us.

“There will be a response from the players. They’ll be hurting after that performance.

“They’ll have had a bad night but not as bad as me because we’re five behind them. At this level you can lose four or five on the trot quite easily when you’re at the bottom of the league.

“Chris is like Sean Dyche, he’s seen and done it all before.”

Warnock pleads not guilty to FA charge for post-Chelsea rant

Warnock was last week charged by the FA following his post-match rant at referee Craig Pawson after the Bluebirds’ defeat to Chelsea.

The FA announced on Friday morning they were charging Warnock with three breaches of their rules, saying he had questioned the integrity of Pawson and implied he was biased towards Chelsea.

Discussing the charge at his press conference, Warnock said:

“I expect to have a hearing some time this week, I hope.

“We’ve got a game Tuesday and then a funeral on Wednesday.

“So we’re trying to work something out between ourselves really. But I’ve pleaded not guilty to the charge.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

'The crowd will be up for it'

If Cardiff win against Brighton, there could be just a two-point gap. Could Brighton wobble?

“I think it’s down to us. They know how important it is and so do we.

“The crowd will be up for it. I imagine we’ll be taking our full allocation and it will be a good atmosphere.

“I scored my best goal at Brighton as a player by the way! Thought I’d mention that.

“From the halfway line dribbling in and out and put it past the keeper. It was for Rotherham.”

Did they win?

“No! You don’t have to mention that.

“It’s a nice place. Nice part of the country. It’s a good club and well-run club.

“We have to look at them and Burnley.

“No disrespect to them but we’re just as big as they are.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Warnock on Murray...

After Chris Wood was a handful at Burnley, will Murray be the same for Brighton?

“He’s just a good player. A good pro.

“When I was at Palace my biggest mistake was letting him go and I think it was to Brighton on loan.

“He was pleading with me because he wasn’t getting a game before I went and I never saw enough of him.

“I didn’t realise what a good pro he is. Our lads will be looking forward to coming up against him.”

'We haven’t scored enough but it’s not for the lack of trying'

While Etheridge is in form, defence not quite good enough?

“I think they’re doing the best they can. There’s mistakes and errors at times ,but everyone of them is playing the best he can. They all deserve the shirt.

“We haven’t scored enough but it’s not for the lack of trying.

“Victor’s not been himself the last couple of games. We hope he can give us a spark again.

“We need 2 or 3 others to step up. Junior did ever so well at the weekend. I know he made a mistake but when I saw it back I could see it bobbled so perhaps I shouldn’t have shouted at him.”

NEIL WARNOCK"

'I don’t see anyone doing any better if the worst should happen'

Asked about rumours of a sacking if Cardiff City were to go down, Warnock responds:

“I can’t do anything about that.

“I’ve not heard anything like that. He’s told me he’s been rung up with loads of managers’ names to replace me, but that’s just how he is.

“I don’t think anyone could do any better and I don’t see anyone doing any better if the worst should happen.”

'Players couldn't give much more'

Does Vincent Tan still believes?

Warnock: “I’ve no idea. I’ve not heard anything from him or Mehmet [Dalman].

“I don’t think the lads could have given me much more this season. We’ve lacked a bit of quality, but when you compare the wage bills. We’re playing Liverpool on Saturday and our wage bill is £12m below their agents’ fees.

“But we’re looking forward to all the games coming up.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

'I always thought we’d be in that situation fighting for our lives'

How do the players cope and stop feeling sorry for themselves?

“I don’t think they do. The clubs we’re playing are fighting for their lives too.

“We have to stand up to that. One or two lads probably lost a bit of discipline early doors and Neil kept us in the game.

“If Murray has the sort of chances they had early doors they’ll be 3-0 up.”

Has anyone given up?

“No, they’re not like that. They’re doing their best.

“I always thought we’d be in that situation fighting for our lives.

“The players have been superb. Everybody will write us off. This morning I heard we’re 1-20 on to go down but that’s how it is.

“We’ve got to try and overcome every obstacle that’s put in front of us.”

'We can decide the title and the top four'

On the remaining fixtures:

“We’ve got to play each game.

“I don’t think we can be written off with the games we’ve got.

“We can decide the title and the top four.

“We’re still alive. I can’t fault the lads. We’ve worked really hard to win games so we’ve got to try again.”

Change of luck on the cards?

“We have to make our own luck really. We have for the last 18 months. I’m not expecting any luck. We’ve got to try and make our own.”

Warnock's verdict on Saturday's refereeing

Warnock discusses the officials on Saturday...

NEIL WARNOCK:

“Obviously the lads are going to talk about it.

“Gunnars was adamant he should have had a pen.

“We have different angles from the TV. Neil Etheridge was concerned that Barnes stopped him seeing the ball for their goal.

“If that’s not interfering with play then the rules need looking at, really.

“He said he couldn’t get a view of the ball. We’re disappointed, but hey ho it’s normal at the minute.”

Did Mike Dean say anything?

“The linesman near us said he’d spotted it off his head so Dean was adamant he’d got it right. One or two referees said so in their columns.

“I was more concerned with the first penalty. Although his arms were by his side.

“He made himself wider where they were. As soon as it hits his arm, they go behind his back, which for me is a good sign.

“Gunnarsson was sure he should have had a penalty by Dean said he went down too easily. Gunnars doesn’t go down too easily.

“The angle we had looks like he’s been clipped on the ankle. He’s not in those positions very often so he’s not used to going down!

“They say it evens out, but it’s not evening out for us.”

'VAR will benefit the smaller clubs'

Bigger club bias?

“Gunnars went down like a pensioner didn’t he?

“Players like Aguero and that are unbelievable and I can’t tell at times if they’ve been caught.

“What people forget when I’m talking about the smaller teams I’m talking about VAR.

“It will help them. That’s not saying that a referee’s biased or anything.

“t’s saying that when a team gets 75 per cent possession they tend to get more decisions. That’s why I think VAR will benefit the smaller clubs.”

Warnock not reading too much into Bournemouth mauling

Brighton come into this game on the back of three straight league defeats, including the 5-0 mauling at home to Bournemouth last time out.

A win tonight will see Cardiff drag their opponents firmly back into the middle of the relegation dogfight, although Neil Warnock’s not reading too much into that defeat to the Cherries.

“If anything their defeat’s made it harder for us. There will be a response from the players. They’ll be hurting after that performance.
