A man has been given an extended sentence of 10 years after driving his car into 11 young people after a football match in Bridgend.

Lee Taylor, aged 36, of Port Talbot, was sentenced at Newport Crown Court today for 11 counts of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving.

He was convicted by a jury last month.

Taylor was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for the attempt GBH offences and given an additional three years extension by the judge. The defendant was also disqualified from driving for six years.

The court heard, that on April 19, 2018, Cornelly Football Club were hosting a game against Margam Football club at the playing field in Meadow Avenue, North Cornelly.
Shortly before 8pm police received a call reporting that a man had just driven his BMW into 11 people following an argument in the car park.

Those injured were all young men – the youngest being 14-years-old.

Taylor fled the scene after the assault and officer arrested him 35 minutes later in his home address in Port Talbot. On arrest, Taylor replied that he had been attacked and then drove away to avoid trouble.

Detective Constable Neville Evans, officer in the case, said: “Taylor will spend a considerable time behind bars for his deliberate actions which resulted in injuring eleven young people.
“It is very fortunate that no lives were lost in this incident and we are pleased that Taylor has now been brought to justice.
“This was an incident which affected many members of the local community in North Cornelly. I would like to praise those victims and witnesses who administered first aid at the scene and thank them, their families and other members of the community who assisted South Wales Police with our investigation and the subsequent trial.”
