RASHFORD SET FOR MEGA UTD DEAL

10/04/19

Marcus Rashford is closing in on a huge new Manchester United deal that will earn him a stunning £70m, according to The Mirror.

The England striker is reportedly in advanced talks over a new five-year contract and has asked for a similar package to Wayne Rooney's old £300,000-a-week terms.

Should that happen, the deal will see his pay rocket from around £80,000-a-week to the mega money Rooney was on until he left in 2017.

Doesn't Harry Kane who's ahead of him in the English team and is a better player earn half that wage?

Fair play to him

Get it whilst you can

It's not his fault the people running the game and his club are idiots and want to throw money around with no care in the world for the cost to supporters.

I struggle to see how he is worth it as a player though in all honesty.

26 goals in 107 games
Averages 1 goal every 4 games

Hes not exactly prolific and there are probably 10 strikers in the premier league alone I would pick in my team before him

How many of those 107 games are him playing as a striker?

Good old stats can be twisted and turned in any direction

To begin with, many of those statistics were constructed in a Jose Mourinho side which was extremely defensive - and as a matter of fact, so is Ole's according to Van Gaal. So, 1 goal in 4 isn't too bad for a striker in a defensive side.

Secondly, he shows up in big games - something which the likes of even Pogba has struggled to do with Man Utd, Rashford scored two against Arsenal on his Premier League debut, he had the courage step up to score the do-or-die penalty against PSG in the Champions League etc.

Thirdly, he's 21. A good Premier League striker would be able to do all of the above but if you're doing it at 21, the chances are, you've got a future ahead of you which might suggest that you could be one of the world's best.

So yes, to some degree, I agree with you in the sense that those statistics aren't brilliant but I don't agree with you at the same time because they're only average statistics on paper. From a realist's point of view, although there might be '10 strikers better than him in the Premier League', signing him up with this contract secures his future with the club. Spending £300,000pw now might mean that Man Utd won't have to let him go and resign him for massive amounts of money like they did with Pogba - and this time, Rashford's future looks better than Pogba's did when he was 21.
